| Archangel_Arcanis07-19-06, 04:37 PM | I'm talking primary melee here. Wanted something unusual for our game so was considering Ranseur to disarm with reach. Planned on taking Imp Buckler Defence to get a shield out of the deal also. Any suggestions as to better weapons, forget feat on Buckler defence? ect... Preferably 2 handed weap so that i cna hold my weap in 1 hand while casting spells and to get more damage out of it since i'm probably going to be one of the main damage dealers. Been thinking reach is best choice to deliver those touch spells and cause enemies grief when closing to me. Back up will be dagger since chracter worships Wee Jas. |

I am unsure if you can channel the spells to a shield for shield bash. I don't have any of my books with me. |

I am unsure if you can channel the spells to a shield for shield bash. I don't have any of my books with me. Well, it pretty much says that at lvl 13, when you take a full-attack action, you may cast a spell with a range of touch, and every target you hit that round is affected by the spell (through weapon(s)) a maximum of once. You can shield bash, all TWF does is grant you extra attacks you can use to affect yet more targets with the spell, if there are any around to affect. Of course, whirlwind with a spike chain is the way to get the most fun out of full-attack channeling. One of my players (Eberron Campaign) right now is playing a Duskblade Drow (LA+0 version from PGtF) using a Scorpion Chain. (I changed the racial profs, since the Drow don't use any of those weapons in Eberron) For added fun, there's a feat that lets you deal 1d4 con dmg following a scorp chain citical. |
| Necromas07-19-06, 10:28 PM | Well, there really is no weapon spefically good for a duskblade, just get whatever you want. Although TWF or whirlwind attack mean more possiblities for channeling, how often do you have that many enemies surrounding you in melee range? Also, instead of taking improved buckler defense, get an animated shield (that is, if you can afford it), if you can't, you could just do without the AC bonus of a buckler, by the time you could afford a buckler enchanted enough to give a nice AC bonus, you can afford an animated shield. +1 animated heavy steel shield = 3 AC +3 buckler = 4 AC, -1 AB, -1 feat If you really need that one AC... +1 animated extreme steel shield = 4 AC, -1 feat (exotic shield proficiency: extreme shield) |
| Tramp4life07-19-06, 10:59 PM | I like the greatspear... |
| Warlock3307-19-06, 11:27 PM | meh, the greatspear was cool in the planar handbook, but not so great in the complete warrior |
| Tytalus07-20-06, 12:27 AM | meh, the greatspear was cool in the planar handbook, but not so great in the complete warrior Those two are entirely different weapons. The Planar Handbook one is actually called Ripper (not Greatspear), but has no reach and is not throwable. And it's a martial weapon. It's essentially a greatsword that does piercing damage. The CW Greatspear is an exotic weapon that has reach, can be thrown, and has a different threat range (20/x3 vs. 19-20/x2). Back on topic: I'm not entirely sure on the rulings involved, but since you can crit with touch spells, one might argue that a crit on a channeled spell attack also doubles the spell's damage. If that's the case, I'd suggest a scimitar (or similar weapon with high threat range). Notable enchantments to aim for: Prismatic Burst [MiniHB]. It's just too much fun to pass up. Get a Scabbard of keen Edges. |

(even when channeled through the weapon) Otherwise it's cheese as above... If your DM says you use the weapons crit range, by all means get a Scimitar or a scorpion chain (spiked chain with 19-20 crit and 1d6 damage) and cheese away. |
