| lostone06-12-06, 10:25 AM | What is the best weapon for Greater Mighty Wallop? I'm thinking Warmace (d12) going to 8d6 with 4 size category increases (medium to colossal is 4 steps, iirc). I'm going from memory and what I can find in the SRD, since I don't have the books here at work. Some others I was curious about but can't remember enough about are the meteor hammer and goliath's greathammer. I don't even remember for sure what book the meteor hammer is in. Also I haven't explored the heavy weapons option, that would increase damage as well. I was hoping someone had already discussed this and had a link. :D |
| aod31806-12-06, 10:39 AM | Unarmed strike, Monk/Sorcerer. A monk with Colossal "sized" hands is just funny. |
| Caelic06-12-06, 10:46 AM | I concur. Unarmed Strike is likely to start out at a much higher damage than other weapons, can be used with flurry (in the case of a monk,) and can be enhanced by more different effects than any other weapon (as it counts as both natural and manufactured.) |
| lostone06-12-06, 10:47 AM | I realized after posting that a monk's 2d10 is probably the best (barring some heavy weapon that beats 2d10 damage), but I'm trying not to tie the thread to a single class. :) I'm wanting to figure out what the most optimal weapon for an unspecified melee class would be, and then assuming an ally is casting the spell on their weapon. |

Mercurial Lamanant, serrated Platinum Greatsword wielded by a Psychic weaponmaster/Disciple of Disapter. 19-20/x5 --> 17-20/x6 --> 15-20/x6 Plus the tripling of the threat range addition of Disciple of Dispater. base damage should be 2D6 increas that 4 steps and multiply by 6... "okay now you are in a room that looks like a vat of beef stroganof exploded in it." |
| Kresalak06-12-06, 11:19 AM | Greatsword doesn't work with GMiW, since it's a slashing weapon. Unless laminant or serrated makes it bludgeoning. |
| jameswilliamogle06-12-06, 11:40 AM | Whip. o yeah. |

| Xeraph06-12-06, 11:49 AM | Well, im personally fond of Three Mountain Style mixed with Brutal Strike, so heres a vote for the trusty Greatclub. |
| _J_06-12-06, 12:29 PM | Goliath greathammer is pretty good. Unfortunately Mighty wallops don't work on Orcish shotputs :weep: |
| WombleHunter06-12-06, 12:52 PM | A Goliath Greathammer - made out of GOLD! From Magic of Faerun, it treats the weapon as one size category larger for damage purposes. |
| lostone06-12-06, 12:57 PM | A Goliath Greathammer - made out of GOLD! From Magic of Faerun, it treats the weapon as one size category larger for damage purposes.Do the rules for heavy weapons actually specify treat it as one size category larger? If so, that might not stack with the spell because the spell has a limit of 5 categories larger than the base weapon (which I assume would be a non-heavy goliath greathammer). That could come down to a DM call. |
| Khazra Reborn06-12-06, 02:15 PM | It's not a size increases, it's a die increase. So 8D6 becomes 8D8. EDit> actually, as the spell comes into effect after heavy i guess base damage is 2D8 so end damage is...still 8d8 (i think...:/) Even with the big weapon damage, is it worth doing? The only time i'd use it would be for psionic/3.0 weapon master for the max weapon damage class levels/day. Oh, and maybe for a TWF build as they usually need to get damage from places other then str or PA. EDIT> a heavy ward cestus (S&F) in combination with mighty wallop gives even a medium character a pretty decent 3D6 unarmed damage. Nice for those characters who want to be unarmed bruisers, as opposed to monks. Technically, as the next dice up from D20 is D100 i *think* that a monk with a heavy ward cetsus's unarmed strike damage is D100...god knows how 4 size increases effetcs that beauty. |
| EldonG06-12-06, 02:28 PM | Gawd, I hadn't thought about the Monk with GMW...that's horrifying. Hmmm...gotta see how you can really max that... |

Monk damage is 2d10 in 3.5, not d20. 2d10 => 4d8 => 6d8 => 8d8 => 12d8 => ?18d8?. |
| EldonG06-12-06, 03:30 PM | Gah! That's like 5 attacks...3 or 4 likely to hit...at 18d8+Str bonus...with jack for effort... Just plain gah! |
| Surreal06-12-06, 03:42 PM | I believe it's 16d8... then 24, 32, 48, 64, 96... assuming you follow the "double every two steps" progression |

| EldonG06-12-06, 03:48 PM | Yeah...I was gonna use it on my gish. Loved it from the moment I first noticed it. Still...the monk thing...just gah. :) |
| djinni06-12-06, 04:18 PM | Gah! That's like 5 attacks...3 or 4 likely to hit...at 18d8+Str bonus...with jack for effort... Just plain gah! while 10d6 is not as impressive as the 12d8 a monk would get, a 10d6+str crit is much more impressive. |
| Sir Gummibaerchen06-12-06, 04:54 PM | Monkey gripped warmace is the way to go. Look here for silly high numbers of damage dice. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9211996&postcount=36) But JF and I will come up with a neat trick soon. Stay tuned... |
| EldonG06-12-06, 04:59 PM | More than likely 16d8... Yes, the crit is sick, but soooo many things that are *any* challenge can't be critted...without extra feats, at the very least. |
| lostone06-13-06, 09:41 AM | sorry yeah hit submit instead of preview, I'm looking up the modification my character uses on his weapon to make it bludgeoning. You ever find this? I'm curious to know what it is, as it will open up a lot of possibilities. |
