Hello I'm making a sorcerer with polymorph as his best spell. I will probably be a gnome.

It's 3.5

The question is : how can I have a + 1 caster level to change into bigger creatures ? (apart from a ioun stone at 30.000 gp, which I don't have)

Are there feats, prestige classes, cheaper items (+1 just for transmutation) ??? Help !!!
:weep: :tantrum:

you may be able to use the necklace of prayer beads: karma. it states that in order for one to figure out how to activate it one must cast a divine spell. well after that point she already knows how to activate it and could then pass that knowledge on to another person (i.e. a non-divine spellcaster) and grant that person the ability to activate it and gain the benefits.

may take some convincing...

Archmage, a single level in a divine spellcasting class for beads of karma, possibly an ankh from Races of faerun (I think, but it might only apply to divine CL), and Red Wizard (transmutation). There might also be a feat in RoF that increases your caster level for polymorph by 1, I'm not sure but there are a lot of feats like that in there. There is also a feat in Ghostwalk that increases your caster level by 1, but it has serious drawbacks.

k, a bead of karma is in the DMG.

catharz do you think the arcane caster using the bead of karma is plausible?

Its pretty iffy, although technically if you get the party cleric to imbue you, you can use it regardless.

I know its just a spell like ability, but if he played a gnome and used his once per day speak with animals ability, would that count?

The answer, if you're talking about transforming yourself, is that you can't have +1 caster level to change into a higher hit die creature (or larger technically, but I think the hit dice is what you were talking about). The number of hit dice/character levels you have limits the creatures you can transform into more effectively than your caster levels. If you're an 8th level sorcerer and you get an ioun stone or something to boost your caster level to 9th, you're still limited to 8 HD creatures.

If you're multiclassed, you can take advantage of caster level boosts, but only up to your number of hit dice. (Sor 8/Ftr 4 with a bead of karma for instance would have a limit of 12 HD.)
