| CursedMortivore12-05-06, 05:19 PM | So I am kinda torn on what type of character to play and have been going through several different level 6s trying to decide what is best for me to play. I've decided to let you guys help sway me into what to do. I can make a level 6 character, and am limited to things from this link (http://www.galacticcomicsandgames.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=361) by what I can or can't play. Three builds I have right now are a Dragon Shaman, Dervish, and an Incantrix. Curious (http://www.angelfire.com/gundam/storagespace/Curious.pdf) (Name is a link to PDF of the character sheet. Some of the skill totals are blanked out because the calculator doesn't work properly in OpenOffice) Level 6 Kobold Dragon Shaman Str: 10 Dex: 22 Con: 13 Int: 10 Wis: 8 Cha: 10 Feats: Improved Natural Armor, Skill Focus: Jump (from DS), Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot Idea with him is a middle of the group kind of guy who really is just there to sit and buff the rest of the team, while getting off a couple of pot-shots at the baddies. Made him because I was tired of having to make rolls for stuff, and failing horribly. Dread Pirate Roberts (http://www.angelfire.com/gundam/storagespace/Dread_Pirate_Roberts.pdf) (Same deal as before) Level 6 Human Fighter/Swashbuckler/Dervish Str: 12 Dex: 17 Con: 14 Int: 16 Wis: 10 Cha: 8 Feats: TWF, Dodge, Weapon Finesse (From Class), Mobility, Combat Expertise, WF: Scimitar, Improved TWF This was a result of a whim after reading the dervish thread. I really like the look of it, but I think I'm just getting suckered into playing another martial class again. Kallina (http://www.angelfire.com/gundam/storagespace/Kallina.pdf)(And again) Level 6 Wizard/Incantrix Str: 8 Dex: 18 Con: 12 Int: 21 Wis: 12 Cha: 10 Feats: Otherworldly, Iron Will, Extend Spell, Skill Focus: Spellcraft, Empower Spell This came about after noticing our parties usually lacked general arcane casters (I usually roll with a Warmage and Sorceror in tow). Generic equipment isn't done yet. This is the one I am most wary about because I've never played such a spellcaster before. So, what do you guys think? Should I go with one of these three builds, or do you guys see something else that might be more optimal, or even have suggestions for these builds? With my banned/allowable list taken into account from this link (http://www.galacticcomicsandgames.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=361) do you think that I have the right idea, or that I should go with something else. I'd really appreciate the help. |
| The Jake12-05-06, 05:25 PM | I love pirates but I love mages more. :) I'm not sure what you're asking... are you asking to optimise the three builds or which one you should play? If its the latter, people can't really make suggestions on what you should be playing. That's a personal preference. |
| jameswilliamogle12-05-06, 05:27 PM | The 3rd has the most potential for power; if you've never played a dedicated mage before, give it a try, just to expand your horizons. I would stay away from the second if you don't want to play another melee'r (its also a personal preference). The first looks like it could be the most fun, but most Dragon Shaman builds suck (theres only like 2 out there that are decent at all, and neither has a very well-defined party identity/role). |

If its the latter, people can't really make suggestions on what you should be playing. That's a personal preference. Optimization is pretty much the main goal, but suggestions are accepted as well. I'd like to see what people think of the builds, and what they'd prefer playing. I'm really up for playing any three of these builds, so I was just going to see if anybody had some words that might sway me one way or the other. P.S.: When do you think the Incantrix will really start coming into her own? We barely run higher level stuff at the place right now, and I don't really want to be in the back seat for too long as that could grow boring for me. |
| GaffeR12-05-06, 05:31 PM | I'd play the Incatatrix, possibly with Collegiate Wizard vs Otherwordly. Depends if you want spells or Persistent outsider polymorphing. Speaking of Persistent, take it and buy a +X spellcraft competency item at the first opportunity. With a lack of a primary caster in your party, this one should do well. Throw in some of the other tasty metamagicks like Quicken. You could even take Extraordinary spell aim for Persistent AMFs... but that may be abusive. Arcane Mastery is another nice one, comboed with Assasy Resistence. Anyways, get your feet wet with the Mage, see how it goes. Edit: The incantatrix comes into her own at about level 5, or 3rd level spells. They're less pathetic than the other ones. 9th is also a very good level if you grab Persistent then. After 9th you'll make a lot of the rest of your party look like slackers. |
| EldonG12-05-06, 05:32 PM | Heck...take the best of it and play a spellcasting pirate. ;) |
| CursedMortivore12-05-06, 08:00 PM | Incantrix definitely looks the most appealing. I'm currently looking for spells for the spellbook. I did substitute Otherworldly for Collegiate Wizard at one. Anything else you guys have to suggest? |
| Timlagor12-05-06, 09:26 PM | Your Dragon Shaman will be pretty weak. DS is really a melee class -you could go with Archery but it's weaker and you still need a good strength. |
| Surreal12-05-06, 09:30 PM | Here's my take on the utility Dragon Shaman |
| The Jake12-05-06, 09:31 PM | Collegiate Wizard is a must for any dungeon delving wizard. Incantatrix doesn't really come into its own until later levels IIRC - the use of metamagic really comes into play when you have enough spell levels to throw around on it. |
