Hello everybody!

I really like the Binder class, from ToM. Thus, I have decided to play one in a short campaign. He will be starting at ECL 14. I haven't decided on a race yet, but this character will try to fill a melee role in the party. For starters, it will be Gold Dwarf. He will have to have a relatively high AC, as he will be the only melee combatant. Also, if he is capable of dealing an acceptable amount of damage, that would be great.

Gold Dwarf Binder 10 / Knight of the Sacred Seal (Balam?) 4

Binder 1: Improved Binding
Binder 2:
Binder 3: Ignore Special Requirements
Binder 4: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Greatspear)
Binder 5:
Binder 6: Exotic Weapon Focus (Greatspear)
Binder 7:
Binder 8:
Binder 9: ???
Binder 10:
Binder 10 / KotSS 1:
Binder 10 / KotSS 2: ???
Binder 10 / KotSS 3:
Binder 10 / KotSS 4

The abilities are going to be something along these lines: CON -> CHA -> STR -> DEX/INT -> WIS

Therefore:

STR:15
DEX: 12
CON: 20
INT: 12
WIS:8
CHA: 17

Not sure if i should be using a two-handed weapon, og if I should rather be using a shield.

Vestiges I will be binding will probably be: Balam, Dahlver-Nar, Tenebrous, Eligor along with others. Please recommend some other Vestiges, if you have some ideas.

Cheers!

Feats
Unless you are using a house rule, EWPs are not listed as a bonus feat for the Binder. I think Expel Vestige is a worthwhile feat for emergencies. As you are going to have one vestige most of the time (KotSS) Favored Vestige and Rapid Recovery may be worthwhile as well.

Vestiges
I think the best vestiges for a tank are Dahlver-Nar (Shield Self, Natural AC), Savnok (Move Ally, Summon Armor, DR), and when you hit 15 Orthos (Displacement, Blindsight). Buer is also a great choice for Fast Healing and umlimited downtime healing for the group.

DCs
If you are going to with Cha over Str then you may want to focus on getting your save DCs up to compliment your high Cha, otherwise I would put Str before Cha. Favored Vestige Focus and investing in a Soul Lens will up your Save DCs a bit.

Damage
To increase your melee damage Andromalius (Sneak Attack), Eurynome (one handed Large Summoned Maul), and Chupoclops (bite attack which can be used as a secondary attack, full attack on charges) are good additions to the defensive vestiges above.

Thanks for pointing this out. I realise that I just mixed the two feats up, and they should substitute places. Also, I was thinking that I should take Rapid Pact Making and Expel Vestige, for emergencies.

This is also what I thought. I will probably be having Balam bound most of the time (+3 to AC, Initiative and Reflex. Very nice) Dahlver-Nar and Chupoclops. This will be the "every-day" bindings. For adventures of course. For more specific task, I will probably be something like Andromalius + Tenebrous + Malphas, foor the Sneak Attacker. Sometimes I might be the Claw beast, using Ipos + Chupoclops + XXX. If the need arises, I can expel one Vestige, and then bind Buer, for healing over night.

This is right, and I was also thinking about changing the two. It's a shame that Balam's Glare will effect my allies. At least, that's how I understand it. I will probably be dumping the saves most of the time, as I like to rely on reliable things :D Thus, not really that much with saves. I will change the two.

Well, the best thing about Eurynome, is that I will be able to use a shield too. Chupoclops will often be bound, as he allows me to charge and full attack.

Any other ideas for more damage?

What's the thoughts about twohanded weapons vs. onehanded + shield?

Cheers!

PEACH = Please Examine And Critique Honestly

As for actually contributing to the thread, I've yet to lay eyes or hands on the Tome of Magic, so I am horrendouly under-qualified to comment at this point. I'll leave it to wiser minds.

Why Greatspear?

Well, the Greatspear is because it gives me reach, and I'm still able to attack adjacent foes. Also, it is one of the weapons that deals most damage.

Now, if i bound Balam, and had his gaze attack, could i then choose to remove my friends from the effect? I don't think so, but it would be cool to do so. In DMG, it seems to say i can't, though.

Any thoughts on the Onehanded + Shield vs. Two handed weapon? With a strenght score of 17 and probably gauntlets of strength.
