Trying to figure out how to optimize a Blackscale Lizardfolk for a campaign that I'm joining at lvl 20.
I've been contemplating a monk. Slapping a Monk's Belt on and giving him Improved Natural Attack sounds interesting. As a 13 mnk, I'd do 4d8, I believe. My DM's lenient with things like that.

Maybe I'll go Bear Warrior or Scaled Horror. Reaping Mauler is attractive as well.
Part of the fun would be a good story. I'll manage it.

Are you totally sold on the Blackscale? The starting ECL 7 really hurts.

I'd prefer blackscale, as vampires, and the like are too common. I also don't have the Fiend Folio or several other supplements (BOVD, BOED) which limits my options. I know the starting ECL of 7 is a pain, but. . . . It would also fit into the campaign. (Marsh based, heavy on draconic races.)

If you want draconic races, then why not the Dracotaur? ECL8, but I consider the abilities and stats overall better than the Blackscale.

For either race, given the high ECL, their only real options are melee tanks, and their stats aren't even that good for that. Barbarian or Fighter variants are the simplest approach. A Dracotaur paladin could be interesting though.

If you take just a standard Lizardfolk, or the Poison Dusk, you'll have so many more levels to make an effective character.

Maybe get initiate of the Draconic Mysteries, for increased natural attacks, as I think those are large, both of them.

(P.S. I've played a base lizardfolk before, and I don't like small chars).
