| Mucknuggle01-12-04, 11:25 PM | Well, my Vow of Poverty Monk finally died due to a dirty trap. My DM has implemented some house rules that I find to be really broken and I'm determined to create a character to show him how broken they are. These are the new rules: - Elves gain proficiency with the elven thinblade (according to my DM -> Exotic Medium, 1d8, piercing, crit range 18-20/x3) -Bladesingers have requirements as in the Complete Warrior, but class abilities of the races of Faerun version except: d6 hit die, +1 to wizard spellcasting every level and you do not learn new spells when you gain a level. I had to create my character in session and what I came up quickly was this build: Wizard 5/ Fighter 1/ Eldritch Knight 4/ Bladesinger 10 This would end with a caster level of 18 and a BAB of +17. 14d6 + 5d4 + 1d10 HP. I made a new character at level 8 and my choices so far have been: Super Stats (due to nice rolls) STR - 16 DEX - 18 CON - 14 INT - 20 WIS - 13 CHA - 12 Race: Sun Elf 1 - Wizard 1 - Scribe Scroll, Summon Familiar, Dodge 2 - Wizard 2 - 3 - Wizard 3 - Combat Expertise 4 - Wizard 4 - 5 - Wizard 5 - Extend Spell 6 - Fighter 1 - Weapon Focus (Elven Thinblade), Combat Casting 7 - Eldritch Knight 1 - Weapon Finesse 8 - Eldritch Knight 2 My spells chosen have been: 1st - Magic Missile, Grease, Colour Spray, Obscuring Mist, Feather Fall, True Strike, Comprehend Languages, Ray fo Enfeeblement, Shield, Mage Armor 2nd - See Invisibility, Touch of Idiocy (I LOVE this spell), Scoching Ray, Blur 3rd - Displacement, Haste I made some bad mistakes choosing magical items, but hopefully I'll be able to get better stuff when we next go back to town. Oh, this is a really big monty haul campaign. I would say that I have a good 100 000 gp worth of items MORE than what I'm supposed to have. I also have access to any WotC material and possibly third party material (that has to pass by the DM first). This is my first time EVER playing an arcane caster in 3.0/3.5 (except for the Bard Mucknuggle), so sorry if my questions seem a little noobish. Basically what I would like to know is: a) What would you have done different (if anything). b) Would you change my build progression and if so, how? I plan on starting bladesinger next level and going straight to level 10 with it. Any particular feats that you recommend? c) See any big spell choice mistakes? Got any recommended spells for other levels? I plan on acquiring a Twilight Mithral Chain Shirt asap (0% ASF!). |
| solipsist0001-13-04, 02:55 AM | What book is the elven thinblade from? This weapon alone seems overpowered, and I'm always accused of making overpowered weapons. And elves start with a proficiency with it? That is broken. I haven't seen the difference in the bladesingers due to not owning the Complete Warrior yet, but I can't see how taking the benifits from each version and adding them together can make for a balanced prc. I as do it and then pwn his butt all over the place. Solipsist00 |
| Mucknuggle01-13-04, 05:45 PM | ...bump. |
| Kenkai01-13-04, 06:12 PM | that weapon is overpowered. thats the point. the real rules for the thinblade are in the complete warrior and are 18-20/x2. |

I believe that he is using the old version as it was presented in Dragon Magazine. I know that it is overpowered, that's why I want to build a "one man army" and teach my DM that his obssession with making elves and wizards more powerful than everybody else is wrong. |
| Kenkai01-13-04, 06:24 PM | thats messed up  it should at least require 2 feats to use. |
