I read somewhere that (some) people dislike the bladesinger. Even so, I'd like to try and play one, I if possible I'd like it optimized... :D

So, if someone could help me with a level-by-level evolution of a bladesinger I'd be very thnakful.

The conditions set in the world our DM created are as follows:

No half-elves...
No racial substitution levels...
Core classes only from PH1 and Complete series...
Basic elf from PH or Drow...
Feats from PH1, Complete series and Races series (and Forgotten Realms, if I can convince him)...
If need be, Specialist mages as in Unearthed Arcana...
Character creation by 28 point buy...

And that's all I can remember...

Thanks!

Books allowed?

Are we talking Bladesinger from Complete Adventurer? Or the favorable one from Palyers Guide to Faerun?

Have you considered just playing a Duskblade from PHB2?

Do you have access to Tome of Battle? Duskblade/Jade Phoenix Mage is pretty solid.

Bard 7/ Paladin 2/ Sublime Chord 2/ Warblade 1/ Jade Phoenix Mage 8 would fit the bill aswell.

Regarding where the PrC comes from, I don't think it matters the book, I think it may be either...

Can't use Duskblade, I can't use neither Player's Handbook II nor Tome of Battle, the I can use are only the ones I specified In my first post...

And I'm not looking for a class or PrC that's a fighter/mage, either than bladesinger... Always been fascinated by them, ever since I began playing 2nd Edition, when it was just a kit... Ever since, I read some novels with bladesingers, and I love it... So, my main goal isn't to optimize a fighter/mage, but to optimize a bladesinger...

Oh, I forgot to mention, the DM only allows us to take on a second PrC after we go all the way with any first PrC we take...

It's in Complete Warrior and Races of Faerun. I just wanted to point that out, because I prefer Rage Mages (and they are getting such an awesome boost with Complete Mage :D).

Where can I read about the boost to Rage Mages (I like them too... :) )...

And any way to put together a Bladesinger/Rage Mage (even if it takes going epic...)?

Swashbuckler 3/Fighter 2/Wizard 1/Bladesinger 10/Duelist 4 looks like the way to go with what you want out of the character and the limits on the material you have. With a bladesinger you are a "swashbuckler"/"rapier duelist" first and use your magic to enhance your sword fighting.

What about Ruathar instead of duelist? I didn't like the fact that the Duelist won't wear armor...

Ok, I know I'm annoying, but if someone just write an oppinion about changing the duelist for the ruathar, then after that I'll just shut up, permantely... :D

To hell with the Duelist, they suck. Rather take something that adds to your spellcasting like Ruathar, Paragon Elf (proberly not allowed), or Eldritch Knight.

Or Abjurant Champion from Complete Mage. Or even Arcane Duelist (link through Handy Links in sig).

But seriously, Spell Rage is better than Bladesong. Simply because you can do it more times per day.

Yeah try to fit in Abjurant Champion and Ruathar, since those are great PrCs that are also short ones. After those are done take either Rage Mage or Bladesinger I guess =/

Was the topic of Races of Faerun vs. Complete Warrior sorted out? The RoF version is often considered to be much better, b/c although it doesn't advance spellcasting (it has its own list) you can quicken ANY arcane spell you know, more times per day.

So, having read all the suggestions made here, I wonder... what if I could also use Tome of Battle? What bladesinger could I build...?

Duskblade 13/ Warblade 1/ Jade Phoenix Mage 6

Warblade 3/ Swashbuckler 3/ Fighter 2/ Champion of Corellon Larethian 2/ Eternal Blade 10

Not to be annoying, but I really wanted to play the Bladesinger PrC... My question is what classes to use to qualify to Bladesinger...

You are not anoying in anyway. It's just that the Complete Warrior version of the Bladesinger really sucks. I would talk to your DM about allowing you to use the Forgotten Realms version. Then you could keep a good base attack throughout you 20 levels aswell as nice HP. And you could add nice dips that synergyzies with your inteligence. Like Carmandine Monk, Warblade, Swashbuckler and so forth.

My DM finally admited that we use tome of battle... Anything I should use to qualify for the bladesinger?

You shouldn't you should be a Jade phoneix mage... and call yourself a blade singer.

I'm not being funny. Mechanically JPM is far superior. Thematically your character is who ever you make him...

But I digress... you really want to Bladesing yeah? gimme a hour to look it over.

Here's one that uses the PGF Bladesinger -- uses the Half-Elf bard substitution levels from Races of Destiny to pull some Jedi-mind-trick stuff. This was written before Tome of Battle -- it would definitely chuck some Bard levels for Warblade + White Raven tactics, I think.

Monk2/Fighter1/Bard8/Bladesinger9
BAB +17
Saves 9/15/15

Fighter= Half-Elf sub level; Monk= Cobra Strike variant from UA or Feat Swapping from OA; Bard = Half-elf sub at 1st and 8th, CW Bladesinger, Sub Inspire Competence for Song of the Heart using Eberron Rules.

Feats: 1: Dodge*, Carmendine Monk, 2: Combat Expert*; 3: Blade Expert*, 6: Combat Casting, Song of the Heart; 9: Mobility; 12: Whirling Steel Strike, 15: Arcane Strike 18: Elusive Target

Gets: Flurry with longsword, 2XInt to AC, Inspire Courage +3 (+4 w/inspirational boost), Soothing Voice, Command, 5th level spells.

Swashbuckler 3/Fighter 4/Mage 1/Champion of Corellion 2/Bladesinger 10 looks nice.

Wait, how did rage mages get a boost in CArcane? Did WotC say, "Whoops, this class sucks, better fix it?"

Hmm...XP Penalties?

Either I misread the rules or you can go

1st - fighter
2nd - swashbuckler
3rd - fighter
4th - swashbuckler
5th - fighter
6th - swashbuckler
7th - fighter

and still avoid the XP penalties, because you'll always be within one class level from the other class...

Except you have to have a level of Wizard/Sorcerer in there somewhere.

Yep.
And the mage class is not taken into account for an elf.
