| Gallameed12-07-05, 08:07 AM | A good friend of mine has recently come back to gaming after a loooong break, he used to play with our group in a (non-D&D) low fantasy setting many years ago. When he saw all the groovy things and creature concepts D&D allows you to create he flipped! :D So after much teasing and a few digs, I have given-in and said ok to his first ever D&D character request: A FR D&D version of the 80's sega genesis ninja/wolf combo Shadow Dancer!! http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/shinobi/shinobi2.htm So he needs to be some sort of ninja type who has a wolf and uses a bit of magic, how can we pull this off and still have it workable in game terms, it seems like such a character would be very multiclassed and/or possibly spread to thin too be on par with other pc's? This Shinobi-style adventurer is going to be joining a 4th level campaign that will go as high as 15-17th. What sort of build would you recomend? Would the Wild cohort feat from this site be the best way to go for the wolf? Oh, and for character creation its going to be 30pt with all stats starting out at 8. |

Remember to take a look at new HB spells in CA and CV, many HB spells are very Ninja-like. If he is dying for some martial arts action too, then HB 8/ Monk 2/ Enlightened Fist 10 (Mettle plus Evasion) is not a bad choice either. Have fun. Useful Feats include: Arcane Strike, Ascetic Mage (if Monk), Improved Natural Attack (if Monk), Practiced Spellcaster, Craft Wonderous Item, Battle Caster (if straight HB), Power Attack(if straight HB), and you get Combat Casting (req. for EF) free. |
| PhaedrusXY12-07-05, 03:17 PM | Monk1/Ranger19 with the Ascetic Hunter feat. :P |
| Xeraph12-07-05, 03:58 PM | Warlock 6/ Rogue 3/ Telflammar Shadowlord 6/ Tempest 5 Focus on TWF and Dart throwing. If i remember the game right, all you need is tons of darts and the ability to jump really high and make a full attack action with the darts. Get some gloves that enchance all throwing weapon siwth the Distance abbility. |
| Gerdreg12-07-05, 03:58 PM | Monk1/Ranger19 with the Ascetic Hunter feat. :P Maybe with Natural Bond for a slightly better Animal Companion. |
| PonTelon12-07-05, 04:36 PM | Monk 6/Psionic Fist 10/Thief Acrobat 4 The Ninja class makes horrible ninjas. I also think that in PP will make it feel more like video games, where they have a bar. The only game I can think of that uses a system for times/day like D&D magic is Suikoden. EDIT: for his wolf companion, get a Weapon of Legacy with Constant Companion, Least(Wolf). Or go with the wild cohort thing. |
