I've been trying to kit up a 12th level artificer recently. (9 artificer/ 3 Cannith wand adept to be exact) and I find that I've been having some difficulty.

Its easy to be blase about wands when we're talking about optimization, but these puppies cost 21k apiece and thats a large chunk out of the 88k that 12th level characters get.

Furthermore, they're impossible to make at 12th level, even with craft reserve due to the xp required being way too high.

So, in 88k with craft reserve at all levels useable (just don't overspend on any one level) how would most people properly kit out their blastificiers?

So far I've got:

Empowered Scorching ray: 21000
Force Orb: 21000
Mithral fullplate +3: 13875 (crafted it with reserve, 25% reduction on GP with extraordinary artisan)
Dedicated Wright: 2100 (once again crafted with reserve)
Portable Hole: 20000 (this might be the first thing to go...)
4000: (headband of intellect +2 and cloak of charisma +2) (crafted with reserve from earlier levels)

that hardly seems optimized, so what do people think?

Assuming you can use Magic of Eberron, you'll want to craft a number of Metamagic infusion lesser schemae.

Also, you should start at part-way past 11th level, using extra XP to craft what you need. Every last copper that isn't being spent on items you can't craft due to level requirements or mundane items should go towards crafting. An artificer can't rely purely on his craft reserve.

Oh, and in case you didn't notice, artificers don't do pre-metamagicked wands.

Huh? An artificer can't make pre metamagicked wand? Or if there is a reason that they can't make those, why can't they just buy one?

I haven't seen anything that says artificers can't make pre metamagicked wands...
