In the theme of Unearthed Arcana - and changing base classes around...

What would you do to compensate a Warlock who does not possess Eldrich Blast?

Maybe a bonus Feat progression based upon how E.Blast normally progresses?

Maybe limit these Feats to fighter feats too?

How about more invocations? The Eldritch Blast is really the key ability of the class, and really the most offensive power they have but maybe double the number of invocations they get. Or half the eldritch blast levels get feats the other half gets another invocation.

In any case I wouldn't limit the bonus feats to fighter only.

How do you plan to use a warlock without the eldritch blast? I'm curious what your theme/goal is.

I'll post over on the class board and link this thread.. however, I consider the people who use the CO board to have a better "grasp" on the game balance than those who frequent of parts of the board.

Well given that you've taken away the primary default attack of the warlock *and* that you've rendered a good bit of his invocation list useless (all the blast shape and essence) ... he had better get something good in return.

My suggestions:

Feats similar to a Wizard, ie. 1 at first level and additional ones at levels 5, 10, 15, & 20. Feats need to be meta sla feats or magic based (Battlecaster, Arcane Mastery, etc.).

Free Familiar as per Wiz/Sor. This will need to be tweaked somewhat.

One more invocation known of each level, except maybe dark. The advancement table might go from:

1 2 2 3 3 | 4 4 5 5 6 | 7 7 8 8 9 | 10 11 11 12

to:

1 2 3 3 4 | 5 6 6 7 8 | 9 10 10 11 12 | 13 14 14 15

I like that idea too.

Wizard Feats
1st, 5th, 10th, 15, 20...

And extra invocation at specified levels...

One of the things to watch out for with something like this is that Warlock is already a crazy good dip class for non-casters - so the benefits gained should be things unusuable by non-casters.

You have a cool concept.

Shadowfist made a variant warlock class called the "Strange" which is exactly what you are looking for. Quite nice. It is one of 3 variants -- slightly overpowered in my opinion, but still very nice.
