| Xaos of the Mind09-30-04, 06:53 PM | So, I'm thinking about making a Blighter (the anti-druid, for those of you who've never seen it in Masters of the Wild or the Complete Divine) for a campaign I'm joining. My current plan is to go Druid 5/Blighter 10/Warshaper 5, in an attempt to make a skeletal beast of a mobile wildfire. I'm wondering, though, if this will be effective in the long-run, or if it will more likely be only a fun character to play in concept. As a blighter, I literally lose 5 levels worth of abilities I would have had from druid, which is a very bad thing for optimizing, but... Standard action 5d6 burning hands? Undead wildshapes? Double-time caster progression? I think it might be worth it. It will also put me at "huge" undead shapes a level earlier than druids reach it (14 instead of 15). The campaign's starting at 1, so I feel like I might be gimped for a few levels from 6-10 or so, which could be a problem. I was also thinking about changing the 5 levels of Warshaper to Nature's Warrior (not sure if it's allowed, have to check) or 3 Wizard and start moving on Geomancer... Also, I'll need to ask about Apes using weapons/wearing armor, because i'm fairly certain it's never been settled one way or the other. Other notes, 30 point buy starting at 8, race: human. Stats:30/30 Strength: 12 (8+4 for 12=4) Dexterity: 8 Constitution: 8 Intelligence: 14 (8+6 for 14=6) Wisdom: 18 (8+6 for 14, 4 for 16, 6 for 18 = 16) Charisma: 8 (8+4 for 12=4) Anyhow, here's my current plan, please critique and add any suggestions you have: 1: Druid 1; Feats: 1+H 2: Druid 2 3: Druid 3; Feat: 3 4: Druid 4; Wisdom +1 (19) 5: Druid 5 6: Druid 6; Feat: Natural Spell 7: Blighter 1 8: Blighter 2; Wisdom +1 (20) 9: Blighter 3; Feat: 9 10: Blighter 4 11: Blighter 5 12: Blighter 6; Wisdom +1 (21), Feat: 12 13: Blighter 7 14: Blighter 8 15: Blighter 9; Feat: Practised Spellcaster (pre-empting the Warshaper levels) 16: Blighter 10; Wisdom +1 (22) 17: Warshaper 1 18: Warshaper 2; Feat: 18 19: Warshaper 3 20: Warshaper 4; Wisdom +1 (23) I'm really not sure what will really be useful for feats, perhaps take Extra Wildshape at some point, and some of the Wildshape buffing feats from CD? Thanks in advance. -Xaos of the Mind |

| Xaos of the Mind10-01-04, 09:09 AM | We're using the CD version, playing 3.5. I didn't notice the BAB discrepancy, that extra level hurts... And yeah, I don't know that I'll be able to deforest all the time, maybe I'll look into something else... Thanks for the input. |
| Karkul10-01-04, 09:52 AM | I've had similiar ideas for the blighter PrC, but I ended up letting go of them. The Blighter's deforestation need is just too crippling to a player character. It would end up being the drive behind a campaign rather than the DM's story. Standard action 5d6 burning hands Pyrokineticist has a similiar ability that allows him to shoot a bolt of flame dealing 1d6/pyro level, as many times as you wish. |
| Xaos of the Mind10-01-04, 10:22 AM | However, that's at the cost of a considerable amount of casting/manifesting, single target, IIRC, and psionic, which *currently* isn't allowed for the campaign. |
| ksbsnowowl10-01-04, 10:52 AM | And yeah, I don't know that I'll be able to deforest all the time, maybe I'll look into something else...Take a look at the Talontar Blightlord PrC from Unapproachable East. I've always thought that it would be a good 'substitue' for the Blighter PrC. It gets nearly full spell casting progression, gains a domain, and gets some interesting abilities (and adds a template to your animal companion), but it does not gain any form of wildshape, which may have been what you were going after with the Blighter PrC. |
| SaintX10-01-04, 11:01 AM | i might be off here since i dont have my books with me for reference, but could you take druid 5 nature's warrior 1 then blighter? unfortunately i think nature's warrior requires +4 BAB. so nevermind. |

| lordxoi11-15-04, 11:31 AM | I'm wondering if the variant druid in Unearted Arcana would help, I'd look it up but I never got my book back when I borrowed it out  |
