We're doing an ECL 4 game, and he wants to play a 1st level half-celestial Paladin with wings, perhaps eventually being Fighter, though likely staying as a Paladin. He wants wings, but he convinced me to offset the bonus from wings with a penalty from having one hand and being blind. He wants to take Blind Fight, what else is there, and in what books? 3rd party stuff welcome. |

| catharz10-06-03, 09:52 PM | This seems like a pretty houseruled character allready, why not just make more houserules? If you're allready ignoring LA for reasons easily negated with magic items and spells, C.O. probably isn't the place you should be asking. |

Actually, I was trying to be fairly harsh on this considering my world is fairly low magic. It actually isn't that easy to negate with magic, whether spells or items. I'm not ignoring LA, I'm just taking into account the total of +4, then making it +3 based on the blindness and loss of one hand. I'm doing it as "by the book" as I can. I kind of figured C.O. was exactly the place to ask in regards to doing the best with what a character has. I'm not sure which C.O. board you've been coming to...although apparently it has the same old grumpy patrons. I was asking a question, and was hoping I wouldn't have to explain something that isn't relevant to my question, and just get answers. It's not very productive to say "I know you have a problem, so why don't you solve it?" Yeah, that's exactly why I posted the question...because I know what to do. Glad to see this board's members helpful as always. As a side note, what magic items and spells negate blindness (not including ones that cure it completely)? You failed to mention that in your foreknowledge-lacking critique of my DMing skills. |

To fully impose the blindness, if you play with a battle mat, do not let the player see it or where his figure is. Make him do everything with very explicit directions. |

Re-read your first post, my post, and the description of the C.O. board, and then edit your flame so it more accurately reflects reality. I'll be happy to help after that. |

I'll be happy to help after that. After following your instructions, I don't see any reason to alter it other than out of politeness. You don't have to answer if you don't want to. And seeing as you don't seem to want to, I'm not sure why you are answering. If anyone at all would be willing to tell me what magic items and spells negate the effects of blindness without actually removing it, I would most appreciate it. |

That's actually a really good idea, and Sacred Fist may fit him very well. I'll let him know about those options, he might be interested. Thanks a lot! :D |
| PhaedrusXY10-07-03, 01:05 AM | There are spells in Savage Species that give Blindsight. Get a permanent item with one of them on it. |
| Boondoggle10-07-03, 07:11 AM | There's also the disgustingly broken item in A&EG that gives blindsight 30' for 9k gp, but it does obscure any other sight  |
| rilem10-07-03, 08:20 AM | Sacred Fist would be one of the better options for a blind paladin, as you'll get blindsight at Pal4/SacredFist4. Note, however, that most 3.0 blindsight abilities have been nerfed to blindsense and this one may be as well. I'm not sure your player will bite on S.F., though, given its tough restrictions. The class isn't really that suited for a flying character anyway. A winged PC should be emphasizing ranged combat, and a Sacred Fist Paladin will pretty much have zero options on that score. Maybe pursue flyby attack? |
| davethebrave37110-07-03, 09:50 AM | I'll be sure to check out the Arms & Equipment Guide (never picked it up, maybe I should look at doing that) and the Sacred Fist option is definately sounding appealing. And Rilem, he's already planning on taking Flyby Attack. He's focusing on flying feats, but he'd like to be able to engage in melee if his wings were disabled. Also, ranged attacks while blind aren't that effective. But we'll see how this works out! Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your help! |
