Feats:
BLIND Feats: Blind-Fight + Combat Awareness + Combat Focus + Hear the Unseen + Keen-Eared Scout + Quick Reconnoiter + Skill Focus: Listen

DEFENSIVE Feats: Dodge + Combat Expertise + Combat Panache + Mobiltiy + Robilar's Gambit + Sidestep

OFFENSIVE Feats: Flick of the Wrist + Quick Draw + Staggering Strike

FYI, 2 additional feats were free from the DM as we treated Blindness as a Character Flaw. Typically flaws only warrant a single bonus feat, but due to the severity of it a second bonus feat was granted. So with that in mind, can you see any mistakes in the math?

I don't know what it took me so long to think of it, but Vow of Poverty would work pretty well with this character. Aside from the sword sheathed in his cane, he's essentially just some bum one would see on the street corner. If one were to stretch this a bit you could also think of him as a sort of Robin Hood given the rogue abilites.

Miscellaneous Feats and Combos to consider: PA+ST+LA, Dodge+Mobility+Spring Attack, and Imp TWF+Dual Strike to blend nicely with the AoO defense.

Defensive combos were KS+Combat Reflexes+Dual Strike+Sidestep

Blind-Fight (General/FBF)
Keen-Eared Scout (General)
Hear the Unseen (General)
Quick Reconnoiter (General)
Skill Focus: Listen (General/FBF)
Imp TWF (General/FBF) Note: TWF is free from Samurai
Dual Strike (General)
Combat Expertise (General/FBF)
Karmic Strike (General)
Sidestep (General)
Combat Reflexes (General/FBF)
Hold the Line (General)
Elusive Target (Tactical)
Dodge (General/FBF)
Mobility (General/FBF)
Spring Attack (General/FBF)
Power Attack (General/FBF)
Shock Trooper (Tactical/FBF)
Leap Attack (General)
Bounding Assault (General)
Rapid Blitz (General)

I'd go with 6 levels of monk to gain +2 dodge bonus
then I'd give him "Word given form"
and at 6th you should have Empty Hand Mastery.

it won't taunt people into hitting you but will allow you to not be hit and your keen ears will be able to let you "see" what's going on.
one level of a psionic class gets you synthsete for that additional +4 to your listen check.

If you want to see a movie based on a blind swordsman, then look at the original movie series that inspired Blind Fury: Zatoichi. Don't get me wrong, I like Rutger Hauer, but Zatoichi is far better.

Zatoichi, played by Katsu Shintaro, was a blind masseur, gambler, and swordsman, set around 1830 in old Japan. The movies begin with The Life and Opinion of Masseur Ichi in 1962, and end with Zatoichi in 1988. 26 films in all, and over 100 television episodes. Awesome stuff.

Another Zatoichi film was made recently with Beat Takeshi in the starring role. While he's no Shintaro-san, he did a very good job of it.

Hmm, doesn't combat awareness from the combat forms feat tree grant blindsight 5ft? One of its pre-reqs is blind fighting so that shouldn't be too much of a deviation from your existing build.

The one where all the surviving characters folk dance at the end? Yeah, that was awesome.

First things first. Being blind has a lot of penalties, but the DMG mentions that a person who has been blind for a long time can overcome some of those penalties. I think it's safe to assume your DM would be nice enough to remove atleast the half speed thing and the -2 to AC thing and the -4 to dex and str skill checks.

I'd like to point out that you can't make Attacks of Opportunity against anything with total concealment to you, so getting blindSIGHT as soon as possible should be a priorty or if you don't get it, don't invest into feats like karmic strike.

For the low low price of 10,000 and 2 hp you can buy a draconic graft that gives you blindsense 30 ft (Races of the Dragon). It's an eye but you can always say that it's blind.

And if your DM uses 3.0 material there's the Blindfold of True Darkness from Arms and Equipment guide. 9k gold for 30 ft blindsight.

I've made a blind character and it was fun, the thing you want to be careful of is not being useless to the party becuase something happened more than 30 feet away from you.

I did a Monk/Fighter starting at 6th level (4 monk/ 2 fighter). At first, I was about as handy as a... well blind guy. My DM doesn't allow the flaws option from the Unearthed arcana but he gave me an extra feat since I was taking such a BIG disadvnatage, so I took blind fighting. And he removed the half movement thing.

Here is what I took:

Hear the unseen, blind fighting and eventually Blindsight 5' radius. It was an old feat but he let me have it since I was completely screwed without it.

Now I would obviously take the combat focus, blind fighting, combat awareness, keen eared scout, and hear the unseen. Also there is a 2nd level cleric spell that allows you to have blindsight of 30 feet, so maybe a continuous item that can do that.

Gah!!! I didn't know that. I'll check out the combat awareness chain and see about massaging in blindsight 5' as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the info guys.

**Edit**
I forgot to ask earlier, where is combat focus and blindsight 5' from?

the combat form line of feats is from Players Handbook 2. You'll need Combat Focus, Blind Fight, Combat Awareness, and one other combat focus feat. Might I suggest Combat Vigor. Anyway, in order to get the Blindsight 5' you'll have to hit something first to enter your combat focus. There are a couple of other things with the feats you should know but I don't want to go into too much detail.

ADDED:

Combat Awareness requires a BAB of 12, so if you're playing this guy from early levels you might be sunk.

I'm working on a character along the same lines, I'll chime in if I come up with anything.
