| CanineLord10-24-06, 05:52 AM | I'm interested in playing a Blink Dog-riding gnome Paladin. I want the dog to eventually take class levels (Psion and Elocator for that cool "Scorn Earth" ability), so I'm planning on using the Leadership feat to nab the Blink Dog. However, would my Paladin mount abilities then be wasted? Are there any rules for combining a Cohort and a Mount? (and, more importantly, is this do-able in Core?) PS Yes, I'm aware of Supermount, but this is a Core-only campaign. :) |
| kadeity10-24-06, 10:23 AM | no it isnt doable. for the dog to take class levels im pretty sure he has to be... a)cohort b)playable as a character... c)which he isnt. you could have him as a mount. sure. or a cohort. sure. you cant have both... ESPECIALLY not in core. |
| mvincent10-24-06, 06:03 PM | you could have him as a mount. sure. or a cohort. sure. you cant have both... ESPECIALLY not in core.I believe you are completely incorrect. I recall the DMG giving rules for combining your cohort and special mount. However, doing so costs your cohort 2 ECL's I believe (so it is sub-optimal). |
| fil kearney10-25-06, 02:13 AM | check the bdog description... no hitchhikers allowed. yer paladin is going to fall on his ass as soon as bdoggy ddoors. I'd houserule it tho.. bdogs are the best! I am blessed to have found a game that allows me to play a tauric bdog 1/2ling shadowlord. it's DM caveat, for certain, but too fun to pass up! |
| CanineLord10-25-06, 03:07 AM | Doh! The DMG. I know I'd seen it somewhere. :) Another cool thing about the Blink Dog, they can act after a dimension door. If a blink dog had sneak attack dice, would they catch their opponent flat-footed after a d-door, and get their SA damage? |
| mvincent10-25-06, 11:45 AM | If a blink dog had sneak attack dice, would they catch their opponent flat-footed after a d-door, and get their SA damage? You could ask your DM, but RAW does not support that. Example: if a rogue readies an action to sneak attack someone as soon as his wizard ally D-doors them both, the rules do not say or imply that it would automatically be a sneak attack. |
| fil kearney10-25-06, 07:21 PM | yeah, but blinking is considered invisible, so that always works... before and after ddoor. you just need an ethereal reaver from complete psi to negate the miss chance. |
| Ezekiel10-27-06, 07:49 AM | If your DM likes this idea, you could always make a magical saddle that allows the rider to join in the fun :) In fact, I believe I've seen that somewhere... might have been in a (day)dream though. |
