Bloodhound: Emergency Healer? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Here's an idea.

Almost everyone is down. It's just the XXX/Bloodhound 3 and the Wizard 9 left. Bob the Fighter is at -6 and bleeding, while Rob the Barbarian is hanging on at -9. The cleric is in much the same boat, and the rogue is barely alive. So suddenly, Mr. Wizard gets an idea. He's got a dominate person left in his book, and after a brief discussion with the Bloodhound, he casts it on the Bloodhound, who voluntarily fails the will save.

He then convinces the Bloodhound that all the downed characters are enemies, and has him attack them all -- using Bring 'Em Back Alive on each to to bring them to -1 and stabilize. The Wiz then ends the spell.

Is there a way to optimize this?

Nice trick, but you could just stick their head in a bucket of water, have them purposely fail the fort save, and automatically jump back to 0, and it only costs you a couple coppers for the bucket instead of a spell slot. Not sure if it stabilizes them though, could be useful if only for that. The fact that you have to be at least 8th level is a little discouraging though, an effective 10 extra HP isn't a whole lot at mid-high levels.

What do you mean by optimize?

The quickest (and least expensive in terms of feats) route I can think of is Ranger 5/Bloodhound 3. You'll probably want to Rapid Shot combat style, so you can shoot out another arrow and attempt to stabilize 3 people in one turn.

Or, go Monk 11/Bloodhound 3, using Greater Flurry, and Quick Draw to toss shuriken. Two extra attacks to stabilize people with. Maybe even grab Rapid Shot & Improved Rapidshot.

That suddenly looks like Monk 11/Ranger 6/Bloodhound 3. Monk 11 for Greater Flurry, Ranger 6 for free Rapid Shot & Manyshot (required for Improved Rapid Shot), then Bloodhound for "Bring them back alive".

Or, go Thrallherd, with your thrall being the said Bloodhound. Since they follow any order, tell them that, if you and your allies ever go below 0 HP, you become his enemy, and he should bring you all back home alive.

You don't need Quick Draw to toss shuriken at your normal attacks bonuses.

Actually, because of the wonky drowning rules, the round after that you'd die, regardless of whether you still had your head in water or not. This is a lot more clearly outlined.

You can get into Bloodhound at 5th by going Ranger 4 and taking City Slicker at level 1. You can also go Barbarian 4 and grab Flexible Mind, or just use Urban Ranger 4.

Why can't you just declare to the DM that they are your enemies now? I mean, you can attack anyone you want. You don't have to mess with the Dominate stuff.

And anyway, if the Bloodhound knows how to stabalize an enemy, then he should be able to apply that knowledge to anyone else. I realize you're trying to "optimize within the RAW" or something, but really this whole thing is just a bit too ridiculous for me. Any reasonable DM should let you just use the ability on your allies if you need to, without making you do some rules-lawyering to justify it.

And please... I can't believe people repeat that stupid drowning thing. Like that would ever be allowed in ANY game...

Which is why I came up with this.

And, oddly enough, it's also what inspired this in the first place. The original plan was to be a Frenzied Berserker and smack yourself, but you can't use BEBA while raging.

If they are all down, they were weak anyway. Kill them for the xp and tell them their next characters better not disappoint you again. Now that's optimization!

You'll have to be evil aligned for that. Both player and character.

I'm sure the OP's friends will kill him in real life. Or possibly cause some extensive physical damage.

Actually, no, because I'm 6' 2" and a martial artist.

However, I'd prefer not to, becuase good groups are hard to find around here.
