| TheGregorian07-12-04, 09:42 PM | Hey, I was reading an update on the wizards site for more psion powers... one really caught my eye: Bloodletting Psychometabolism (Str) [Evil] Level: Psion 4 Display: Vi (see text) Manifestation Time: 1 action Range: Touch Target: Living creature touched Duration: Until discharged (instantaneous) Saving Throw: Fortitude partial (see text) Power Resistance: Yes Power Points: 7 Your mere touch causes blood to erupt from every opening on your target's body, including any open wounds it may have. This attack causes extreme pain and may cause the victim to become dazed. Your successful melee touch attack causes 7d6 points of damage; it also causes the victim to become dazed for 1d3 rounds unless it makes a successful Fortitude save. Not the best spell... psionic spells usually do 1d6 damage for every power point you spend... but this one just caught my eye. I want to make a character that doesn't attack... just stands there while people kill themselves trying to hurt the character... If I cast this, I'd usually make a touch attack, but could I just hold the charge until they touched me? Usually when you have a spell, you want to damage them ASAP... but it would just have such a cool effect like... you walk up to someone, touch their shoulder, and blood spouts out of your eye sockets! Can touch attacks be used when they touch you instead of you making the effort of touching them? |
| jus1007-12-04, 09:57 PM | well its called a Touch Attack for a reason... See you'd have to make an effort to break their touch AC for game balance reasons...but if your DM would allow it then i guess essentially you can do it liek that. |

| AviLazar07-13-04, 12:02 AM | Originally posted by TheGregorian Can touch attacks be used when they touch you instead of you making the effort of touching them? you are looking at a suped up (to say the least) of fireshield spell. Just calculate the difference and make the power that much more costly. In this case, the power would be epic (fireshield is 1d6+1/level while this is 7d6). Fireshield is level 4 spell. -A |
| TheGregorian07-13-04, 01:58 AM | that's exactly what I'm looking for... lots of damage shielding. That's what empathic feedback and energy retort are for... but I want as much as possible. Other than those two and "forced share pain" do you guys know of any psionic damage shields? Reason I asked about the touching thing is like this... recently we had a bout where we were all playing evil characters, one of them did something silly, so me and the cleric smote the other 3 (without taking a single point of damage I might add). After we raised them, we ran into a battle (turning out to be a punishment from the DM as we were level 14 and he gave us a munchkin'd epic level barbarian leading a group of level 10ish barbarians)... the worst part was, none of the people we just raised came to our aid and it was just me and a level 14 cleric against all that power.... unfortunately, not only did they not come to our aid, but one of the raised dudes joined the barbarians trying to kill us. We got away from the barbarians, but the monk (the guy who turned on us) grabbed onto the cleric, who started flying away. The cleric flew a good 200 feet up and tried to shake off the monk (who was designed to grapple) and obviously failed. So... he made touch attacks. Sure, the concentration check was high but we figured out... the monk is holding on to the cleric... he can't fail his touch attack unless the monk lets go (falling 200 feet). Anywhoo... so, we figured monks can attack with fists or headbutts, etc... so casters should be able to deliver touch attacks to anything they touch (with any part of their body) so casters should be able to just wait until the other person touched the caster for the touch effect to actually connect. Yea, that was an unnecisarily long story (and I can't spell neccessary in that tense because I'm tired)... So my question turns in to: What Damage shields can a Psion cast on himself? (no AC buffs... the idea is I WANT them to hit me, but I want them to take most of the damage they do... plus lots of damage for touching me.) |

The way this is worded, there is no saving throw from the damage. Only the daze effect allows a saving throw. That makes this power quite a bit better than I first thought. |
| TheGregorian07-21-04, 06:51 PM | Yea... it's a nice spell. 1d6 damage/power point with no save. And you're dazed for 1d3 rounds unless you make a fort save. You can cast this spell and hit instead of touch, right? Like, if I cast the spell, and get through all of his AC, not just touch, I can damage him normally and do the spell, ja ja? |
