However, there are reasonable limits on what you can really do for free. Now, CA, page 28, Bloodseeking spell: Causes 3 dmg to add +1d6 damage to a spell as a free action. Combine it with Hide Life from T&B, find an excuse draw stupid amounts of blood(hit yourself with a magic weapon+Awaken Blood), or better yet, develop a spell with a duration that does it as a free action in your turn. Example: Draw Blood Necromancy Level: Wiz/Sor 7, Cleric 6 Components: V,S,M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Self Target:You Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No As a free action the caster is able to draw blood from his own body, causing 9 points of damage per caster level(to a maximum of 180 points of damage at caster level 20). The blood can be used by the caster as he wishes, but it cannot be used to directly cause damage, although it can be used to power the caster's abilities. Of course, hardly ever a DM would allow this use for the spell, so any ideas/excuses to draw all your blood?:mage: P.S. : Don't take this thread as totally serious :D |

If the ability is a free action, you should be able to damage yourself as much as you like and enhance the spell as much as you like. Which would be amazing for a Vampyric touch, but you're screwed if you miss. The spell seems rather superfluous. |
| NateNate11-26-04, 01:00 AM | I think your trick would fall into the multiple-unnamed-bonuses-from-the-same-source-don't-stack department. Unless the ability says you can apply it multiple times to the spell and that it stacks each time, I dont' think it would work. Kind of like using two 3rd-level spells and two 2nd-level spells to activate Arcane Strike four times in one round, expecting a +10 to hit and +10d4 damage. It doesn't say multiple activations of the ability stack, and since they're from the same source only the highest bonus applies. |

It's nowhere written that it is a bonus(using the RAW definition), in Arcane Strike it is written as such I'd allow it, but remember, you are going to be making quite a few concentration checks to pull that trick off : ) You don't have to, it's part of casting the spell. The spell seems rather superfluous. Yes, otherwise I doubt that some DMs would allow it, it's just an example. |
