Now that the Gauntlet paraphrase has your attention, here's a 15th level fighter-type (actually a cleric) that needs the ability to do more damage.
Clr 3/Church Inquisitor 8/Mindspy 4

Yes, you're probably thinking right now, "Mindspy?!? That doesn't advance his caster level!" Yes, but it sure does fit thematically. Practiced Spellcaster gives him back those four caster levels and, although he can't cast 8th level spells and is limited to 6th level spells, I still like the Mindspy flavor.

Persistent Divine Power (24 hr duration)
Persistent Righteous Might (24 hr duration)
Extended Greater Magic Weapon (30 hr duration) +4 4th->5th
Extended Magic Vestment (30 hr duration, on armor) +4 3rd->4th
Extended Magic Vestment (30 hr duration, on shield) +4 3rd->4th
Extended Mage Armor (30 hr duration) +4 force armor 1st->2nd
Extended Status (30 hr duration) four people 2nd->3rd
So, bearing in mind that he has the above spells always on (their effects are figured in). . .

Extend Spell
Persistent Spell
Divine Metamagic (Persistent Spell)

So, any advice on how to have him deal more damage? He can certainly take a hit and with his Intimidate skill can likely get people to attack him rather than the primary clerics or the wizards of the party, but can he dish out damage? I don't really think so. After a few rounds, people might start ignoring him and just for the primary casters in the group.

so total attack bonus +26/+26(haste, should be on in any significant encounter)/+22/+17/+12 . 2d6+12 multiply by 5 10d6+60= average 110 damage a round.

quickened true strike and power attack would do wonders

Is this a very high powered game because in melee you already seem pretty powerful.

I was thinking of things with at least AC 30, 300 hp or so, at least +25 attack, speed of 60' -- like a really darn big bear. Throw two bears at the party at once and someone is likely to die. Even with haste, only the first couple of attacks are likely to hit, so that's about 30-35 damage a round, which means that's 10 rounds of the bear chewing on somebody, using its improved grab to just rip the party to shreds. And with its speed, you can't run away.

Those bears are tough. Lots of CR 15+ stuff is really tough.

Sure, lower level things can pretty much be ripped through. But that's usually true for every character at every level.

I just noticed that I'm missing a feat. Power Attack would probably be the best thing to take?

What books do you have available to use?

About everything, although UA is iffy. The Complete books, the Races books, Book of Exalted Deeds, PHB2, Liber Mortis, Champions of Ruin, etc.

Battle Tide from magic of fauren. Enemies get penalties and as long as one fails a save you get an extra standard(partial action). Which means full attack + move(or spell) and Quickened spell each round.

Look through the diffrent books as a cleric you have access to all of them. Just eyeballing a few CR 15 creatures your character as is with power attack would be able to kill them in 1 maybe 2 rounds, you still have the rest of your party not ever factored in. If the big bear is bothering you fly, it can't. Playing smart will always beat just straight power gaming.

What's a good magical item that gives a permanent fly ability?

Wings of Flight.

Also, there are several spells from Spell Compendium which give you an aura of light that you can shoot at enemies (2 charges). There are several different versioms, but I don't remeber the name off the top of my head.

I don't remember a Wings of Flight item or I would have grabbed them already -- where are they from? A Google search for ["Wings of Flight" "Dungeons and Dragons"] and ["wings of flight" magical item] didn't show them.

It's only 750 for a potion of fly. Is this being played and if so what is everone else in the party. If you have the money wings of flying DMG pg 268 or cheaper but only 3/day boots winged dmg pg 250.

No, the character isn't going to be played. I just enjoy spending time creating characters for no reason at all.

I think we have a scout, an abjurationist, a cleric with a cohort, some warrior guy who never really says or does anything, and an NPC bard.

A pair of these wings might appear to be nothing more than a plain cloak of old, black cloth, or they could be as elegant as a long cape of blue feathers. When the wearer speaks the command word, the cloak turns into a pair of bat or bird wings that empower her to fly with a speed of 60 feet (good maneuverability).

Moderate transmutation; CL 10th; Craft Wondrous Item, fly; Price 54,000 gp;Weight 2 lb. I think the Cloak of the Bat is a LOT better for the price: Cloak of the Bat
Fashioned of dark brown or black cloth, this cloak bestows a +5 competence bonus on Hide checks. The wearer is also able to hang upside down from the ceiling, like a bat.

By holding the edges of the garment, the wearer is able to fly as per the spell. If he desires, the wearer can actually polymorph himself into an ordinary bat and fly accordingly. (All possessions worn or carried are part of the transformation.) Flying, either with the cloak or in bat form, can be accomplished only in darkness (either under the night sky or in a lightless or near-lightless environment underground). Either of the flying powers is usable for up to 7 minutes at a time, but after a flight of any duration the cloak cannot bestow any flying power for a like period of time.

Moderate transmutation; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, fly, polymorph; Price 26,000 gp;Weight 1 lb. All of the other things it lets you do can be incredibly useful, not to mention it is alot cheaper than the Wings of Flying. You can't use your hands while flying with the Bat Cloak, however. If all you want is to be able to fly a few times per day, the boots are probably better. Boots, Winged
These boots appear to be ordinary footgear. On command, the boots sprout wings at the heel and let the wearer fly, without having to maintain concentration, as if affected by a fly spell. He can fly three times per day for up to 5 minutes per flight.

Faint transmutation; CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item, fly; Price 16,000 gp;Weight 1 lb. All of these items are in the DMG.

I would suggest swapping your morning star out for a quarterstaff, and casting Brambles or Spikes on it. Get some oils of shillelagh (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/shillelagh.htm) for big fights. I think there are some newer spells that function similiarly, called X Mighty Whallop, but I am not that familiar with them. Take Power Attack, and use the weapon two-handed.

Some people do build characters that they don't actually play.

Ever heard of Pun Pun?

I personally create more characters than I could play, and choose which ones I like the best once I've fleshed them out.

Unfortunately, although I told him before hand what spells and such I was going to persist, although I told him about it for a couple of days before I put all the time in writing up the character, the DM just said that he'd already told another person several days ago that they couldn't use Divine Metamagic. You'd think he could have bothered to share that with me back when I first told him what I planned on doing with this character. Dang it.

So I'm back to the drawing board.
