| greymarch05-22-04, 01:41 PM | This question might belong in another forum, but since I read about it here, I will post my question here... Someone mentioned a magic item called Boots of the Lion's Pounce in another message thread. Does this item exist in a WoTC published book? If so, then please provide the book, and page number. |
| MorandirNailo05-22-04, 01:57 PM | Lion's Pounce is a spell in SS and MiniHB, so boots with a continuous Lion's Pounce effect wouldn't be hard to make... Mor |
| Eagle Prince05-22-04, 02:10 PM | I don't think there's such a thing, but there is a lion's pounce spell in two or three books so they were probably talking about some kind of custom-made item. |
| greymarch05-22-04, 03:29 PM | I have seen several versions of the lion's pounce spell. There is a 1st level druid spell, and a 4th level ranger spell that mimic this function. I was hoping there was an actual item. |
| Eagle Prince05-22-04, 04:32 PM | Yep, there are quite a few things already out there to get a full attack on a charge, including feats. However, I have nearly all of the dnd books and have never saw an official boots that give you pounce. I am guessing they were talking about a custom-made item. I notice people talking about boots of lion's pounce in one thread on the min/max boards that was talking about a cleric charger build, but those were a custom-made item. If there was an official item like that, you would hear about it a lot more on the boards IMO. I don't have Arms and Equipment, Enemies And Allies, Mini Handbook, or new Complete Divine. I also have all the forgotten realms books except the new Player's Guide to Faerun. Could possibly be in one of those, but I doubt it. |
| fozzy05-22-04, 08:32 PM | It's a spells that has been bound to a created item.... like enchanting armor... but with creating a item with a persistent spell upon it...... yup yup ~kk~ |
| MorandirNailo05-22-04, 09:19 PM | It's not in any official WotC book, to my knowledge, but it's easy to figure out how to make it...continuous effect item is spell level x caster level x 2000gp, so using the MiniHB: 3(Druid) x 5 (min caster lvl for 3rd lvl spell) x 2000gp = 30,000gp for the Pounce ability in an item. However if you can slip the old spell from Savage Species past your DM, the price is considerably less (1st lvl Druid spell there): only 2000 gp! Probably won't work though. Alternatively, you could make it use-activated, 3 times/day for only 18,000 gp (assuming all my math is correct, anyway...don't have a book in front of me). Mor |
| iN.fuSioN05-22-04, 09:24 PM | It is a custom made item. Continuous use activated boots with Lion's Pouce druid spell lvl1 from savage species. Should cost something like: Caster Level - 1 Spell Level - 1 Use Activated Cost - 2000 Multiplied by 2 because the duration of the spell is 1 minute/level as per DMG page 285. It's power on the other hand is not directly related to boots which is movement, so the its cost is multiplied by 1,5. Boots of Continuous Use Activated Lion's Pounce - 1x1x2000x2x1,5 = 6000 PO quite cheap both in price and system abuse. You can do the same with Kauper's Skittish Nerves (MoF) and possibly with Sign (MiniHB) for initiative abuse. |
| Grim Sage05-23-04, 06:38 AM | ehm... the boots allow you to Pounce on a Charge... how is that not movement-related? i can think of no more appropriate slot to put an item which allows you to leap upon a foe and go mad with attacks. |
| Bafslikia05-23-04, 11:00 AM | Isn't there a "Sandals of the Tigers Pounce" wondrous item in OA? |

And that's why you pay more for it. I personaly wouldn't use boots. ;D |
| Caelic05-23-04, 10:06 PM | And this is also a good example of why the magic item creation costs are suggested guidelines and not firm rules. Some items are disproportionately powerful. I put boots with the ability to continuously grant full attack on a charge in the same general category as gauntlets that constantly give you a +20 insight bonus to attacks. |

The same as a +20 insight bonus to attacks? I would not get THAT extreme, but it is quite powerful and should, therefore, have its price increased. You could on the other hand make an item that grants the pounce ability if you take an action to activate it, as a spell but with infinite uses (as one bow i've seen does with true strike). What is clear is that the game has loopholes that can be abused and that is only subject to particular basis jugedment of the DM. IMHO, things like the Incantatrices, Dweomerkeeperers, Spelldancerers are all much much worse than unlimited pounce for a fighter. |
