Bored with Character, Looking for Suggestions [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-01-06, 01:08 PM My character is just turning 5th. Have been pursuing chainfighter-type build so far but getting bored of it and not finding helping party out as much as I'd like. Party is well-balanced and consists of ranger, warmage, fighter, thief, and cleric. Other than scraping character (I kinda like 'em) how can I get the make the most of what I have?

Human Rogue1/Swashbuckler1/Fighter2

stats (not great I know)

str 10
int 13
wis 7
con 10
dex 17
cha 13

feats

EWP: spiked chain, able learner, combat expertise, improved init, weapon finesse, combat reflexes, improved trip, weapon focus: spiked chain

flaws

Have 2; shaky and the one that gives you -2 to listen and spot checks

04-01-06, 02:03 PM First, I am assuming that the complete books are ok as you listed a bunch of complete book classes in your query.

Next, my guess why you've found tripping to be ineffective is because your strength is relatively low. Even with +4 to your check, it probably is difficult to trip any opponent your size and certainly not any that are larger.

Given that, I think you have a decent TWF capable build here.

I would suggest going for Exotic Weapon Master.

Requirements: EWP + Weapon Focus in chosen weapon, Weaponsmithing 3 ranks, BAB +6.

You already have the feats required to get in for spiked chain wielding, so all you need now is more BAB.

Pick up the "flurry of strikes" ability, which lets you make an additional attack wtih a spiked chain (with a -2 penalty, just like TWF). I'd also pick up TWF, and strap on some spiked armor. Your attack routine would be three attacks all at -4, two with the chain and one with the armor.

This is what I'd suggest to get there - the focus is on getting more sneak attack dice and BAB as quickly as possible. Swashbuckler 3 (precise strike) isn't so useful for you due to lower intelligence.

1 - Rogue 1
2 - Swash 1
3 - Fighter 1
4 - Fighter 2
5 - Rogue 2
6 - Rogue 3 (Alternative: Ranger 1 to get favored enemy & track)
7 - Rogue 4 (Alternative: Ranger 2 to get free TWF, but light armor only)
8 - Exotic Weapon Master 1

I would suggest either headed towards Occult Slayer after that (good will saves and anti-mage capabilities), Nightsong Enforcer (good tough Sneak Attacking class), and more levels in anything that grant sneak attack dice.
