| marrithl211-27-06, 01:09 PM | I'm trying to make a bounty hunter for an upcoming campaign. I am limited to keeping the build (if you can call it that) to only 1-2 classes and 1-2 prestige classes. I know it's easy to do a lot with that, but I'd like to keep it as close to 1 class and 1 prestige class as I can. Currently I like the idea of ranger 3/fighter 1/bloodhound 10/ shadow dancer 2/ sorcerer 1/ fighter 3... but this is too complicated for my DM's taste. So maybe I could do something like ranger 3/ fighter 1/ bloodhound 10/ fighter 6. So I'd like to see what you guys would suggest for other prestige class options, possible feats or special items to help this bounty hunter find, subdue, and return his mark, or any other general hints to making him work. I have never played as a ranger or a tracker/hunter type character so any help would be appreciated |
| Chicknin111-27-06, 01:13 PM | isnt there a PrC called 'Bounty Hunter' not sure if its any good though |
| Tweedledope11-27-06, 01:16 PM | Even better than the Bloodhound (IMHO) is the Crimson Scourge from the new Cityscapes book. They're more of the "Boba Fett" type hunter because they'll beat the hell out of you and THEN bring you in. Combine that with either some Justiciar levels and some Bloodhound levels and you're gravy. Did I mention that the CS gets two good saves, d10 HD, Full BAB and 6 + Int for skills? Too good to pass up IYAM. isnt there a PrC called 'Bounty Hunter' not sure if its any good though Nope, no such PrC exists outside the Star Wars Universe. -=TD=- |
| Chicknin111-27-06, 01:30 PM | isn't it in the DMG2? If not then i must be dreaming ... zzz |
| Tweedledope11-27-06, 01:32 PM | That's a "template" for character builds. It's not actually a PrC. |
| Chicknin111-27-06, 01:39 PM | my mistake... |
| Hanniball11-27-06, 02:54 PM | So I'd like to see what you guys would suggest for other prestige class options Well, if you don't mind being Lawful and taking Skill Focus: Gather Info, the Justiciar Prc from Complete Warrior gets some nice bounty hunter-esque abilities. Their bonus to Gather Information checks stacks with Bloodhounds, Improved Grapple for free, Nonlethal Strke +4D6, and Hog-Tie are all cool. Justiciar would also improve your otherwise dismal Will save. Rgr 3/Ftr 1/Bloodhound 3/Justiciar 6/Bloodhound +7 would be my suggestion. Either way...just my 2 cp |
| marrithl211-27-06, 04:31 PM | crimson scourge... never heard of it.. and I've never seen that book either. could you maybe post a link to the class for me or something so I can see what it is more in depth? Rgr 3/Ftr 1/Bloodhound 3/Justiciar 6/Bloodhound +7 I like that idea. I thought of using justicar over bloodhound myself, but I guess I didn't think to use them together what with a lot of the stuff overlapping (not stacking). But I guess I just don't see the class as being as much help since I already have crippling strike (and it's 2 str dmg rather than just the 1 and doesn't have to be non-lethal) I guess all I see that's good with justicar that i don't get with bloodhound is the grappling/hogtie thing and the improve gather information check (which I wont use since I will get locate creature with bloodhound) and where can i find that bounty hunter template? |
| Tweedledope11-27-06, 05:52 PM | 1) Giving you any info about the Crimson Scourge is against the CoC so, no, I can't. 2) The Bounty Hunter isn't a "template" per se, rather, it is a sample character found in the DMG II. IIRC, it's part Ranger part Rogue and 100% Crap. -=TD=- |
| marrithl211-28-06, 09:26 AM | mkay, so I'm still struggling with this build a bit. I want to keep it more simple I guess. So maybe keeping it to one class (maybe a one leve dip into another class) and one prestige class. I suppose I'm thinking along the lines of: Fighter 5/ Bloodhound 10/ Fighter 5 I like feats and literally every level of the bloodhound prestige class. If I were to try to make the most use out of this bounty hunting scout's crippling strike ability and general high damage, how would I do it and which feats would help me? |
| FiestFan11-28-06, 10:10 AM | Rogue 2/Ranger 3/Bloodhound 10/Justiciar 5. More than two levels of Fighter for a Bounty Hunter are bad, mmmkay? ;) |
| FarKadeNear11-28-06, 10:28 AM | Currently I like the idea of ranger 3/fighter 1/bloodhound 10/ shadow dancer 2/ sorcerer 1/ fighter 3... but this is too complicated for my DM's taste. Dear lord Why? ____________________ Crimson Scourge Rogue 2/Ranger 3/Bloodhound 10/Justiciar 5 as mentioned above look at Crimson Scourge... and the above build for a way to go. FKN |
| Tweedledope11-28-06, 11:23 AM | ...I must really just dislike the Bloodhound. You could always get some early entry love into it. Urban Ranger 4/Bloodhound 1/Crimson Scourge 10/Bloodhound 5 This gets you all of the Ranger goodies for 4 levels All of the awesome abilities of the Crimson Scourge (IE, Full BAB, 2 Good Saves, d10 HD, 6 + Int skills, SWift Tracking, +3d6 "Pain Damage," Immune to Nonlethal and Spells or effects that inflict or manipulate pain, scent and a +3 initiative...among other things). It's up to you I guess but, since you don't seem to want to take our advice, I don't know why I'm even posting here. Seriously, Bloodhound is a 'decent' class but, I feel that the Crimson Scourge is much better overall. You really only need 1 mark afterall. -=TD=- |
| marrithl211-28-06, 11:42 AM | yeah I'll be making a trip over to barnes and noble to take a good look at that class in about an hour or so. I do really appreciate your guys' help, so don't think I'm not grateful. I'm just sticking with bloodhound for now because I still haven't seen the crimson scourge. |
| marrithl211-28-06, 01:54 PM | Okay, I just got back from barnes and noble and I don't think I'll be using much city tracking stuff... so thank you all for the help so far. I'll just take a look at some ranger builds. |
| calvayne12-03-06, 07:04 PM | The Crimson Scourge sounds really neat but yesterday i went to 3 places to try and see the book but could not find it. what lvl does the crimson scourge get scent? |
| marrithl212-04-06, 10:14 AM | why do you guys like crimson scourge so much? all it has is full bab, two good saves, city tracking, and a bunch of societal skills... my group wont be using these new rules from cityscape so the extra feats that pertain to city politics wouldn't help me much... for instance I think they get something that lets them carry a weapon in town, which is a big advantage when no one else can, but we usually have our weapons with us anyways, we just can't be carrying them in our hands or anything. and if you guys think the BAB and two good saves is good... or are worried about not getting scent, maybe you should look more closely at Bloodhound (yeah the 3.5 one in CA) cause they get that stuff and more. I really like that class. It suits the hunter's flavor well. It doesn't do everything, but it is a good supplement. I've decided to use more ranger with this class. I'll probly just do ranger 10/bloodhound 10. thanks for the help again guys. |
