| Tweedledope10-10-05, 02:53 PM | Okay, I need a new build. I'm playing a Monk (House rule, I'm Chaotic) with increased damage output and a full BAB. So, this class, which my DM calls a Brawler, needs to be optimized. Obviously, I'm a little tank (d10 HD too) so I need to know how to optimize this? I'm playing a Dwarf for certain roleplaying reasons. I'm currently 3rd level with a few feats (and one flaw) as follows: Shaky (flaw) Improved Unarmed Strike (Monk Bonus) Improved Grapple (Monk Bonus) Jotunbrund (From my Flaw) Endurance (Seriously needed for my DMs campaign) Diehard (Probably not very optimized but I seriously needed Endurance so I finished that feat tree out) So, where do I go from here? I want to maximize grappling obviously as well as my unarmed damage. I figure that my 6th level feat should be Improved Natural Attack (which, works for Monks) but from there, I'm lost. So, great COers, what feats should I take? |
| Xeraph10-10-05, 03:14 PM | Reaping Mauler is my bet. Or maybe Drunken Master. Reaping Mauler gains Mobility as a bonus feat, Take dodge, then Elusive Target. Drunken Master gets you Stagger. Lets you make some weird charge attacks. Combine the two and you will stagger around in combat and trip everything who tries to touch you. If you find the Prerequisites, you could take Duelst to get Improved Mobility. You will have a nice +8 bonus to AC when staggering around. Few will hit you, the ones that dont will fall on their buttom. Just a thought. Reaping Mauler is pretty solid without this combo. And your variant Brawler seems pretty solid all by himself actually. Could ofcourse aim for Freezing the Lifeblood, that feat always rock. Any ideas? |

| SoulGamit10-10-05, 11:40 PM | It's a stunning fist attack that stuns for 1d4 rounds. I beleive it's in complete warrior, I know it's in one of the completes. |
| Zsasz_Diedne10-10-05, 11:41 PM | Complete Warrior, paralyzes an opponent on a failed save, I like pairing it with Deathblow(Complete Adventurer). Reaping Mauler is a good way to go as that class loses it's benefits in anything heavier than light armor, and as a Monk I presume you won't be wearing any, some good feats to pair up with that class are Earth's Embrace, Close Quarters Fighting and Clever Wrestling (all CW). |
| Tweedledope10-10-05, 11:52 PM | Hmm...problem. I don't have Stunning Fist so, I'll have to wait til 9th level to take any of those related feats. I was also under the impression that Earth's Embrace was pretty...horrid because you actually have to pin the opponent to receive the extra damage. -=TD=- |
| Zsasz_Diedne10-11-05, 12:12 AM | Which is why I only suggest in conjunction with the Reaping Mauler, who can KO and later on kill, an opponent he's pinned, should the opponent make it's save it's still taken damage, which being a monk would be your unarmed plus EE. Also note that the Reaping Mauler gains Improved Grapple for free at 1st level of the classs, so if you do intend to take it you might want to see if your DM will let you retcon and take Stunning Fist, thus opening up all those other feats for you. |
