| X-Codes09-26-05, 04:14 AM | I'm considering implementing a number of UA variants into my next campaign to help reduce the amount of work I have to do as DM. It's a web-based campaign over voice chat, and theres a number of times I ended up pausing for a needlessly long period of time trying to keep everything straight. Eventually it broke down because of other reasons, so now I'm going to start a new one with some house rules in place to make it a better game. Now this is where you guys come in. I'm re-reading Unearthed Arcana and have already ruled out all of chapters 1 and 2. At the end of Chapter 3 is an example of the Craft Point system, and I'm changing it up a bit here. My new campaign is going to be based in Eberron, so go wild with your artificierness. Craft Points are used to accelerate the completion of items and equipment. A character has a number of craft points equal to their ranks in one craft skill * 10. A character gains an additional 100 bonus craft points for every level taken in the Artificier or Magewright base classes. A character gains additional 200 bonus craft points for each item creation feat they have. At the end of a day of crafting, a character completes an additional 1 gp worth of work for every craft point they have. At the end of any other day, a character can create any item with a market price equal to or less than his total number of craft points by expending 75% of the item's market price in "crafting materials". Expirence point expenditure, if any, remains the same. The "crafting materials" have to be noted separately from cash, but weigh the same. The idea is to streamline the adventure and not make it so that long, uneventful party downtimes for item crafting bore the non-item crafters in the party to death. |

They can use a spellbook like wizards, but more often prepare spells from memory using the Spell Mastery feat gained at 1st level every 4th level thereafter. And yes, I know Artificiers are gaining excessive craft points, but they almost live and die based on crafting items. I just want to know if this houserule would make them any more exploitable than they already are. |
