First of all, I can award no prize for this challenge. I'm simply challenging the character optomization board to break some feats that I decided to change for my campaign. If you can't break them, then I'm fairly certain my players won't break them either. Those feats are....

DODGE 1.a [General]
Prerequisite: Dex 13+
Benefit: You can make take a Total Defence action as a move-equivalent action instead of as a standard action while wearing light or no armor and carrying no more than a light load.

NOTES: You are still subject to the things Total Defence specifically disallows, ie expertise/fighting defensively, but you CAN attack, and TWDefence works with Total Defence Actions, and there is NO penalty to attack rolls.

Toughness 1.a [General]
Benefits: You gain +2 hp/level.

NOTES: This is the complete text. It IS retroactive AND proactive. You can only take this feat ONCE.

Break them please.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Extra:

The reason I'm changing Toughness is because I feel that all feats should always be worth something at every level. The original Toughness is only good at level 1, if then. I believe that this version of the feat is balanced at most levels, and can be taken for another feat, but is a little better than mediocre at best.

The reasom I'm changing Dodge is for flavour issues. Dodge is only good if you are a tank. I think it should be for lightly armoured/encumbered warriors. Therefore it got a makeover.

The Dodge could be a problem. Firstly, there are a number of feats that rely on the 'target of your dodge feat.' Secondly, it really encourages both Wolf-Fu and Karmic throw-Fu.

Making Toughness +3 hp +1 hp per level might stick with the original flavor more (screws 1st level wizards less), and has the fun bit of following skill points.

But I think yours is fine.

Wolf-fu? What is this... Wolf-Fu?

And what feats are those that reference the target of you dodge feat (and what books are they in)? This is for my campaign that I'm currently running, and I have seen no feats like that that I can remember.

Karmic-Throw-fu how? Karmic Strike requires they be hit in combat. My version of dodge makes them miss more often, so explain this one please.

And that's not showing me the broken examples I asked for. Can I have them, please? Pretty please?

He means that it may be possible with Tumble 5+ ranks and a few feats to really boost your AC, thereby taking undue advantage of the 'you miss me and then I get to hurt you' feats found in Complete Warrior.

He's specifically referencing Wolf Berzerker from UnEast, and KarmicStrike and DefensiveThrow from CmpWar.

Total Defense isn't that good. Personally, I would never take that version of Dodge, and would be annoyed at having to take it to get to Spring Attack.

Maybe upgrade it so it becomes more useful if fighting defensively /total defense. Perhaps if fighting defensively, it improves to a +2 dodge bonus, and if total defense it goes up to +4 versus the single target and +2 versus everyone else. That might make total defense worth it, and the feat is better still for people that can't take combat expertise.

As Mean said...

Wolf-Fu means getting one super-strong attack. For example, a Claw-focused psychic warrior can get an attack that deals around 7d6 per round, but with only two attacks per round. This version of Dodge would be like giving them spring attack for one feat.
But worse yet, psychic warriors can manifest a power as a swift action that gives them a free action. Which means a weapon master that can all out defense + full attack! Oops...

By Karmic throw-Fu, I mean feats that allow you to take advantage of opponents attacking you. Karmic strike + Stunning fist or Great throw means that your opponent can't actually complete their attack when they hit you. Combine this with the all-out defense, and you'll just be slowly whittling your opponents down, and they'll never touch you.
