Breakdance Swordsman: how would you do it? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-05-06, 12:39 AM Okay, I'll admit it: between playing Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked and listening to a few of the soundtracks while working, I've become enamoured of the idea of a character who fights like Mugen from Samurai Champloo. It also happens to coincide with my love of the Tome of Battle, which seems perfect for me. My only question is, how would you build a character who incorporates a sort of crazy breakdance style with sword strikes?

Oh, and forget katana...I'll just go longsword or maybe bastard sword.

I was thinking something like Monk 2/Warblade 18 or something along those lines.

Idea is to take whirling steel strike to get a longsword as a monk weapon, then use combat rhythm liberally to rack up some nice damage on the first round. Might also throw in snap kick and call that my "breakdance sweep manuever" or something.

So, looking for alternative build ideas. Nothing super uber (we generally stick to 2-3 base classes and 2 prestige classes at max). So, ideas?

(Oh, and I am not making a Mugen clone. I'm just interested in that sort of free flowing fighting style, not really the character so much).

Dervish as well may have what you're looking for.

09-05-06, 12:54 AM Dervish maybe, but I kinda recommend Swordsage over Warblade, for the Setting Sun and Desert Wind manuevers which have some of the manuevers you may be thinking of.

Desert Wind has a particular manuever (I believe level 5 or 6) where you move, and whoever you move past to threaten you make a melee attack at your highest BAB. Cool stuff. Setting Sun has alot of throws and cool manuevers that you might see in the show. Tiger Claw has alot of the Mugen-flavor fighting, what with all the airborn jumping stuff.

Oh, and Samurai Champloo is my 2nd or 3rd favorite anime, Cowboy Bebops the first. Not that I watch much anime... maybe 5.
