| Quiljss01-29-07, 03:15 AM | Hey ladies & gentlemen! Like my wingman Tehril I have an unbelievable task set before me, to take on a Daemonic Great Red Wyrm. This thing is your worst nightmare -- it rules with an iron claw all of the homebrew campaign world we are currently in and has captured four of the five books of power; each of which are likely equivalent to the Wand of Orcus in power magnitude. Our campaign world is a real labour of love, we've been at the same campaign for 5 or so years. We began as heroes, digressed to villains, engineered the conquest of the majority of the known world and then retired our 15th level or higher evil characters as rulers of the realm. 300+ years has passed now and we've rolled up good heroes to overthrow our old (now epic) evil characters. This fight which will happen behind the scenes, as our party is 6th level, will represent a shift in the power balance and will be an epic struggle! So here begins my earnest plea for aid in building a monk capable of going toe to toe (at least for a few rounds of fun!) with a Great Red Wyrm. I imagined this monk (who I retired around 12th - 14th) able to shapeshift into a dragon himself (Fang Dragon!) And bring to bear as much monkish/dragon firepower down as a freight train loaded with TNT, derailing at an antique road show. I was looking at some of the 'handbooks' for Monk builds but many of them include Psionic PrCs, which aren't legal in our homebrew. Here's what I've got so far; Primary class(es) Monk Race Human 32 point buy Most splatbooks allowed. (Think the PHB II, Unearthed Arcana and the 'Complete' family of sources.)* * With the exception of really off the wall stuff like the miniatures handbook, and dragon magazines. Build concept I like the idea of him being able to shapeshift into a Fang Dragon or something else of similar squish, to be able to tangle with the Wyrm toe to toe, grappling, clawing, biting or whatever he's got to do, to keep him from casting vood magic every round! Saw some suggested Monk/Druid/Warshaper suggestions, but they don't allow for the more powerful forms (like Dragons). Any suggestions, tips, advice or otherwise is greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Right off the top of my head I think of Ectoplasmic Fist (ECS ) +1 size Imp Nat attack (MM) +1 size Monks Belt (DMG ) unarmed damage +5 monk levels Superior Unarmed Strike (ToB ) +4 monk levels Gauntlets of the Talon( Complete Divine) ((depends on Deity)) Earth Hammer (spell, RoS,) +1 size So at 11 monk, you would be doing 20th level damage thanks to Monks Belt and Superior Unarmed Strike from ToB. Now with 2 feats and a Spell your at +3 size catagories.from 2d10 to 4d8,6d8,8d8, ect... Also see if someone can cast Grearer Mighty Wallop on you for extra fun. Just a thought |
| KurenaiYami01-29-07, 03:38 AM | So at 11 monk, you would be doing 20th level damage thanks to Monks Belt and Superior Unarmed Strike from ToB. I always thought those two didn't stack, since they both are based on your actual monk level. |
| Phoenix0001-29-07, 03:39 AM | Greater Mighty Wallop can get you 4 sizes. Does it stack with the other things? Depends. Regardless with 4 size increases and 2d10 damage base (11 monk+4 superior unarmed strike+5 monk belt) you will be doing 12d8 damage which is where the table on page 29 of the DMG ends. |
| LordBOB77701-29-07, 04:02 AM | As far as i know they would stack. Still, 12d8 per hit is no laughing matter |
| Twili01-29-07, 08:17 AM | monk 2/druid 8 (shapeshift variant PHB II)/ sacred fist 10 will grant you 8th lvl spells, 12th lvl monk unarmed, good saves. 17 bab if you only want 7th level spells monk 2/druid 8/ sacred fist 6/ warshaper 4 will grant you all the nice abilities of warshaper.. just my 2 cents |

| ChristopherGroves01-29-07, 03:55 PM | It is a dragonshard item in the back I think ... |
| Quiljss01-29-07, 04:15 PM | These are great suggestions, thanks fellas! |
