| Serrin10-06-05, 04:29 PM | So, here's the story. I'm playing a fleshwarper which, due to house rules, is CL 7 . Other than that, I'm mostly wizard-y. So my party is me, a ranger, and a cleric. Skill monkeys are lacking in large part because the DM favors a kicking down the door and shooting everything that moves type of campaign, and traps and locks would get in the way of that. To this end, I'd like to gain a cohort really good at kicking down doors and bashing faces using grafts to make a good basher even better. A familiar would work too. I just figure that cohorts level up better than familiars. So, any thoughts on what it ought to be? I just got Savage Species and have been toying around with some possible bustedness. F'rinstance, feral (template) half-dragon (template) half-ogre (race). He'd be a level 1 fighter with retarded amounts of strength and a breath weapon. And an eye of flame. And some extra limbs. Wings, too. That's legal, right? So that's one idea for a bruiser. What's everyone else think? Cohort's ECL should be somewhere around 5-7. Doesn't matter if they're monster levels, templates, or class levels. Just straight ECL, and ability to murder things good. |

Bruiser cohorts are asking to die, as they will be behind the rest of the party in Saves, HP, BAB, and damage output (worse equip, which a bruiser needs). If you want someone who can stand toe to toe in Melee, your best bet might be a Cleric build with Persistant Righteous Might. |

Take advantage of that CON with a Hammer of Earth (Magic of Rokugan - 9000gp) that adds your CON mod to damage. Power Attack/Leap Attack after you take a few levels in barbarian/fighter, then make sure you have complete mental domination over your cohort when he takes his zerker levels. Nothin fancy, just wind him up and point him at the door. |
