I'm thinking of building a Bugbear Cleric/Assassin, with core 3.5 only and 36 point buy.

Stats would be:
Str: 18
Dex: 18
Con: 17
Int: 14
Wis: 14
Cha: 6

Levels:
Bugbear 3+1 LA=4:
Cleric 4,5,6
Assassin 7-16
Cleric 17-20

Domains trickery and war.

I want him to wear mithral breastplate (-1ACP) to be fairly durable if his death attack misses. My main question is in regard to weapons and feats. I want to use poison as frequently as possible (like every attack), so I'm thinking daggers or bow, but I'm not sure what the best choice is. Also with feats, I'd like some help.

Please help me optimize this core 3.5 bugbear.

First of all, I would suggest to focus on melee attacks, since your death attack only works as a melee attack. Poison would have to be reapplied after each successful hit, limiting the number of times you could use it in combat. Dodge, mobility and spring attack would be good for an assassin. Also, expertise will allow you to maximize your AC while in combat. You should end up with a good enough melee attack bonus to afford the minus to hit.
With your strength, you could also use improved unarmed strike and improved grapple. You can strike with a poisoned dagger while grappling and you could also use a garrotte without provoking an attack of opportunity.

For a dagger wielder, you can't go wrong with Invisible Blade. Too bad the death attack schtick doesn't work with thrown weapons or Master Thrower 5 would have been straight-up uber.

Have the boards been acting strangely lately, or is it just me?

A glaive-wielding bugbear Cleric/Assassin is about as cool as it gets, using Spring attack heavily.

There is a PrC perfect for this sort of character. However, it is Faiths and Pantheons and is specifit to Cyric. If you don't want to worship Cyric, then it would be a very simple job of changing the required patron to Hruggek (and possibly the required weapon focus to Halberd).

I am referring to the Strifeleader. For feats you need Iron will, Spell focus (Illusion), and Weapon focus (Longsword). Because it requires 3rd level divine spells, you would have to wait until ECL 9 to qualify, and it dosen't grant Death attack until PrC level 8. You do gain Sneak attack and access to a bunch of illusions, as well as some other nifty abilities.

Black Flame Zealot from Unapproachable East is also an option. They are clerics w/ a death attack, some spells and some neat abilities. PRC can't be taken 'til level 6.
