TheDexion 12-24-05, 08:54 PM	No stat bonuses no insta kill brain munching... other than that I got a mindflayer character and Im in the market for a build... preferably something combat oriented but I am in no way opposed to a caster as long as he can survive... any and all ideas welcome... have fun taking advantage of the racial special abilities
deathwishjoe 12-24-05, 09:00 PM	best class by far is the illithid savant PrC. eat the brains of your fallen foes and gain there power. remember to be careful what you eat and use body outside of body to gain more uses of your class ability. the trick can be found in my hannibal lector the invinceable link in my sig. remember they dont need to insta die from brain suckage to gain there power. you can slowly scoop out the goodness and enjoy your munchkinism with a spoon if you'd like with this class.
Noria Merfolk Mage 12-25-05, 10:47 AM	Use the Expanded Psionics Handbook version of the Illithid, to get Psionics which you can boost with extra class levels.
TheDexion 12-26-05, 07:35 AM	trying to avoid the XPH... dm is tired of it as I am the only player familiar with it and cant seem to help myself taking advantage of that fact... thats how I get to play an illithid in the first place... at the moment a build through at least lvl 5 would be great if anyone can come up with one... I do intend on taking illithid savant but not yet... all I need at the moment is something to get me on my feet
Da Dinictus 12-26-05, 10:12 AM	Could you post the exact changes to the 'standard' Illithid-as-PC you'll be using? What modifiers are gone or reduced? What is still used, what is not?
TheDexion 12-26-05, 07:42 PM	no base stat adjustments no extract attack no racial levels at all (no free hit dice, feats, or skills) other than that he's as is... that means I get to keep the following: Mind blast, psionics, improved grab, +3 natural AC, SR 25+class levels, and darkvission 60 ft... oh and telekinesis Basicly a better human with favored class wizard

Illithid Savant is still roxxor, but make sure you can eat brains after the event, even if it's not an attack. 3 things stand out in that line-up: Mind Blast, SR, and Telekinesis. Ability Focus and Improved Spell Resistance will boost the first 2 by 2 each, which should be big helps. Telekinesis means the Master of the Unseen Hand from Complete Warrior is an option, you can look into that. There's also Detect Thoughts, which leads into the Mindspy from the same book, but its not as useful really.

For style points, go Ranger 10 first, taking Education to get the ranks to qualify for Savant, then keep taking Trophy Hunter. Eat things. Hey, if you're gonna be eating those brains, why let the rest of the body go to waste?
