we are a group of 6 players that are about to try to tackle a very difficult hardcore dungeon ( rappan athuk ). the DM is merciless so we are in for a tough challenge. since the dungeon is very heavy on the undead and heavy on construct it's pretty boring to play a rogue ( no sneak all the time ) but with all the traps and door it is very useful ( although with them being high DC all the time you better be very good at find/disarm ).

so here is my problem i'd still like to play one and i was aiming for the anti-undead rogue from the miniature handbook. it gets cool immunities and ability to sneak undead. ( skullclan hunter the pre-req are : knowledge religion 8, ability to turn undead and 2d6 sneak ).

we start at level 12, carac are 18,16,15,14,14,10 and we have standard wealth with no more than 25 % of starting wealth in one item.

could you help me build a decent rogue for this ( all book authorised but BoED, BoVD and all world specifics book < so no forgoten or eberon and such > ) ?

if the build is too subpar i was aiming for a damge dealing gish ( spellsword/heldritch knight ) but am worried about SR and low hit points. any pointer there would be nice too.

the rogue so far :
race still undecided
rog 4/cleric 1/ Skullclan Hunter 7
for feats : dark stalker for sure and the rest i have no clues... maybe use thoses turn with divine might

all comments welcome

thanks in advance

Couple thoughts... Since you don't mention books allowed:

Skullclan Stalker of Light (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=685717)

Can't find the thread now, but... Rogue/Cloistered Cleric/Chameleon with Razing Strike.

The kobold substituion levels in races of the dragon make for some interesting rogueishness.

Remember that you don't have to be a rogue in order to be a trap finder. All you need is the one level of rogue, and the willingness to spend the skill points on search and disable divice every level, even if they're cross class. Taking the Able Learner feat (Races of Destiny) really helps with this.

Or (my gosh do I sound like a broken record) play an Artificer. A better trapfinder and locksmith than the rogue, with massively more damage potential. At level 12, you're well into the prime of his power, too.

Umm, isn't artificer in Eberron?

An SRD thought would be the Arcane Trickster. . roguish skills (including disable device) plus full caster progression is always nice, and adds a little long-term versatility as well. Offhand I can think of a couple of ways to get in while losing only two Caster Levels.

If Psionics are in, Lurk and Psionic Rogue (from the mind's eye) also are good dungeoneers with plenty of things to do outside the trapmonkey role

Soldier of Light is in Deities & Demigods, Razing Strike is in Complete Adventurer. Unfortunately Stalker of Kharash is from BoED, but you can get by without it if necessary.

If you want a great skill monkey with good battle options (and can't play an Artificer, as that woud be the best choice), how about some Incarnum? Incarnate can fill the rogue role pretty well, abd with some multiclassing, can do it better than a rogue.

Human Rogue 2/Incarnate 8/Legacy champion 10 (Weapons of Legacy) has all class abilities of a 16th level Incarnate, avarage of 4 + human bonus + Int modifier skill points per level, and a legacy item (I suggest making a custom one with all the menu choices that make you better with skills).

The character would have an amazing modifier in all those most important rogue skills you want to have maxed (Search, Disable device, Open lock, Use magic device), and would be able to fight a lot better than a straight rogue against opponents immune to sneak attacks. Just wield a Skillful weapon to make up with that not-so-good BAB.
