| PCO Borys07-17-05, 03:02 AM | I am looking for a build with max CL and picking up Epic Counterspell as soon as I hit 27. Is there any I can get Evasion without loosing 2 CL? |
| X-Codes07-17-05, 03:07 AM | Practiced Spellcaster takes care of any level loss if you are going epic. Otherwise, theres no way that I know of to get 10th level magelord before going epic. |
| ksbsnowowl07-17-05, 03:17 AM | Is there any I can get Evasion without loosing 2 CL?2 or 3 levels of Spelldancer from Magic of Faerun. |
| X-Codes07-17-05, 04:43 AM | Theres a problem with spelldancer. If you are human and take levels in spelldancer, you cannot possibly qualify for Magelord until level 15 without recourse to Flaws, and thats if you're a human wizard. They both have very heavy feat requirements (4 each, only 1 is a wizard bonus feat and none of them are common between the two classes). |
| MorandirNailo07-17-05, 03:03 PM | There's a class in Heroes of Battle (combat medic, battle healer, something like that) that is a huge help here, because it gets evasion. Apparently the requirements are such that Clr 1/Wiz X will get you into the class, which can then advance Wiz casting. I think at lvl 4 it gets Evasion, just in time for you to go into Magelord. While this still results in one lost caster level, it's the best that I know of. All other effective builds that I've seen lose 2 CL (monk 2, rogue 2, etc). And while I'm at it, check with your DM about changing the Magelord reqs. Apparently the guy who designed the class has said the requirement should be 4th level spells, not 5th, so you can finish the class pre-epic. Also, the 10th level magelord ability as written is redundant. It should say that you can use your metamagic on converted spells w/o changing casting time (still no quicken though). Mor |
| Snow Savant07-17-05, 03:13 PM | Seriously, Magelord sucks hard. A total crap PrC. But if you have to do it ... and you insist on wasting your hard-earned feats on hard-to-squeeze-in pre-req.'s, use my preferred Magelord build: Wizard 5 / Human Paragon 3 / Combat Medic 4 / Magelord 8 ((...assuming the 4th level spells change to pre-req.'s )) You actually get 19 spellcaster levels in this build. Although your build "flavor" is wacky and rather all-over-the-place. Avoid Spelldancer in your Magelord prefix .... the feat pre-req.'s are rediculous. |
| Sithobi107-17-05, 03:44 PM | Divine Oracle gets a version of Evasion; check with your DM. At least it's more likely to be accepted than a ring of evasion, right? :P |
| Snow Savant07-17-05, 04:22 PM | You can house-rule D.O.'s class ability as Evasion ... but it ain't Evasion by the RAW. Also note ... my build gets an INT boost from HP as well ... giving you even more Spell Mastery spells than normal. |
| Molot07-17-05, 04:51 PM | You can house-rule D.O.'s class ability as Evasion ... but it ain't Evasion by the RAW.There are a rules in DMG that says sth like "you can use another feat or ability to fullfill requirements, if the required one and the one you have gives you the same" (not exact as I don't have book here and now). So, if only wording is close enought (the same benefits, but circumstances or requirements may be different), it is perfectly ok to use D.O.'s class ability as Evasion for purpose of requirements and it would not be a houserule. But I don't have both escriptions, so I can't tell is that in this case. |
| Sang-Drax07-17-05, 06:04 PM | I second Molot. D.O.'s ability is just like Evasion, but better. It would be reasonable to accept that. I must confess that I find Combat Medic's flavour better, though. And I really like to know why so many people love Magelord. It's a strange PrC that requires tons of useless feats and it's so crappy and boring... |
| X-Codes07-17-05, 06:12 PM | Magelord takes the superior (with preparation) Wizard and gives him sorcerer-like abilities (which let him blast like a sorcerer if he isn't prepared), not to mention a bit of extra damage on ray spells. |
