| Saulot04-10-06, 04:31 PM | Build Idea: The Dread Dweomerkeeper Considering the fame of the class, I’m surprised that I’ve never heard of anyone using the Dweomerkeeper class (Complete Divine web enhancement, found here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040522a)) to ignore the cost of Animate Dead. The class is actually stupidly easy for a Dread Necromancer to qualify for, a simple 1 level dip into Cleric for the divine casting and Magic domain is all you need. Before someone mentions it, yes, I do realize you could do this with any caster that gets Animate Dead and that Dweomerkeeper gets more out of those classes. I use Dread Necromancer because they can control more undead than any other casting class thanks to Undead Mastery, and thus get that much more out of doing it for free. But anyway, here’s what you get out of Dweomerkeeper: The Breakdown: Supernatural Spell makes creating undead easy, and most importantly, free Full casting progression, a must for any Dread Necromancer Arcane Sight is just swell Cloak of Mysteries is cool, but the DN gets less mileage out of this than a Wizard or Cleric Passable skill list, Cleric hit die Mantle of Spells is worthless cause the DN is a spontaneous caster You lose a caster level to the Cleric dip, albeit only 1 Dweomerkeeper doesn’t add to turning… sigh… So I guess what I want to go for here is Dread Necromancer 8/Cleric 1/Dweomerkeeper 10/something super cool 1. Other things to consider: Arcane Preparation + Rapid Spell – This combination of feats opens up any full-round casting time spell to use with Supernatural Spell. But are there any spells that make this worth the spent feats? I can’t find any on the DN spell list, and haven’t found any elsewhere to get with Advanced Learning (though admittedly, I didn’t look very hard). Turning – The 1 level Cleric dip gives you a second source of Turning/Rebuking attempts, so you have 6 + (2 x Cha mod) turn/rebuke attempts per day. I’m pretty sure they’re independent of each other, cause I remember seeing some Cleric/Paladin/Chameleon Persistent cheese archer build using the same trick a while back. That many turn attempts (plus 8 per taking of Extra Turning  ) SCREAMS at me to be abused in some way, but I can’t figure out how. Arcane Disciple – A natural choice for any Dread Necromancer, but Supernatural Spell makes it necessary to totally rethink your domain choices. How can you get the most out of this? So… what do people think of this idea? Crap? Pwnage? This isn’t something I’m going to use (not right away, at least), just tossing around ideas, so I’m totally open to any suggestions. |
