| reveal08-23-04, 03:44 PM | Help me build this Gnome! My DM has told us we will start as 9th level characters. Rolled stats: 15,14,13,13,11,11 Race: Whisper Gnome - Races of Stone (+2 Dex & Con, -2 Str & Cha) Classes: Any but I want to become an Assassin Max level: 9th Books available: 3.5 PHB, 3.5 DMG, Complete Divine, Complete Warrior, Races of Stone, Unearthed Arcana Gold: 36,000 |
| PhaedrusXY08-23-04, 04:32 PM | Rogue3/Swashbuckler3/Assn3. Feats: Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Weapon Finesse (free). Stats: Int 16 (15 +1l), Dex 16 (14 +2r), Con 16 (13 +1l +2r), Str 11 (13 -2r), Wis 11, Cha 9 (11 -2r). You have one point left from leveling. You could put it into Dex, Con, or Int. Any of them would be good. |

If you don't mind waiting till level 11 for your Assassin levels look at: Rogue 4/Swashbuckler 3/ Hexblade 3/ Assassin 10 BAB: +16, Sneak attack: +7d6, can only be flanked by a rogue of 18th level or higher, base saves; Fort: +8, Reflex: +14, Will: +8 Plus Evasion and Mettle--your saves are covered. If you have a positive Cha modifier, you add that to all saves as well. |

Your skills remain high up to 8 ranks apiece, which is a good place to break off skills without scaling DCs. Appraise, Tumble, and Gather Info come to mind. Continuing from here, there are several options. If you like the death attack, Going for Assassin 9/Shadowwalker/Teflammer Shadowlord 5 gets it the highest, I think. Whisper gnomes also get an intriguing option, if you don't want to waste time on Death attack (which is sub-optimal, really). Once you get assassin 5 you can go into Arcane Trickster for five levels, advancing your cool assassin spells and SA and get Improptu SA twice per day for the price of 1 BAB and death attack. Finish with either five levels of rogue for a special ability and a bunch more skill points, or a five level PrC of your choice. Invisible Blade for BAB, Shadowdancer for mobility and HipS, Dragon Disciple for some nice misc bonuses and blindsense, NotCM for Improved Evasion, etc. If you're going to focus on the (sub-optimal) Death Attack, Ability focus helps a little bit. Other than that, follow normal rogue feats. Weapon finesse if you need it. Spring attack. Etc. Just my two cents |
| Piraatje08-24-04, 06:42 AM | It all depends on what you want to do with your assassin. If you want the uber-death attacker, use both assassin and teflammar shadowlord (UE) for the highest DC from class levels and max out your int. If you want to be all about KILLING in general, just use Rogue/Assassin and check out all the wonderfull poisons available. |
| kedi08-24-04, 07:37 AM | Possibilities: Rogue 5/ Assassin 4 Bonuses: Great Sneak Attacks, Great Hide & Move Silently Skills... Rogue 3/ Ranger 2/ Assassin 4 Bonuses: Good Sneak Attacks, Great Hide & Move Silently Skills, Free TWF, Better BAB... Rogue 3/ Fighter 2/ Assassin: Bonuses: Good Sneak Attacks, Great Hide & Move Silently Skills (with penalties but), Better BAB, 2 Combat Feats... Go core, go best ;) Unless you're using Monte Cook's books. Yay for Cook! |
