Build without base classes? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-27-05, 09:46 PM I was wondering if it's possible to make builds that do not have any base classes in them at all. Here's what I have.

Cloistered Cleric 7
Nar Demonbinder 1
Virtuoso 1
Sublime Chord 1
Ur-Priest 1
Fochlucan Lyrist 8
Athar Defiant 1 (cash in cleric levels for Defiant levels)

Liberal use of Psychic Reformation is advised, as is a ring of evasion to qualify for FLyrist.

Alternatively:

Mulhorandi Divine Minion at level 1 qualifies one for Master of Many Forms. Take all 10 levels of it. IIRC, Lion of Talisid only needs the wild shape ability. So take that, or if not, take a fighter-based prestige class up to level 10, like kensai or something.

IDHTBWM, so I can't confirm the specifics of all of these. Your input is appreciated. I also do not advocate playing them or anything.

06-27-05, 09:52 PM Well, as you've already noticed, the Athar Defiant is the easiest way.
Alternates include using Paragon Classes from Level 1 (Easiest with non-casters).

06-27-05, 09:57 PM How about the paladin/blackguard thing? Conceivably, you could have a normal paladin who fell to darkness, traded all his levels in for blackguard, and then went on to become a warrior of darkness.

06-27-05, 10:16 PM Can't do the paladin thing. You need 11 paladin levels and can only trade in 10 (unless you can immediately go into Epic blackguard, requires CL 21+).

Paragon levels are a good way, as noted, but you either need two of them — Half-Orc paragon into human or orc paragon into PRC — or get into an early-entry PrC.

Half-Orc Paragon3/Stoneblessed3/PrC for example, or Human Paragon3/MasterInquisitive/PrC

Cloistered Cleric is technically a "base class" ... or "core class". Albeit, an alternative core class.

Rilem's suggestion for Paragon levels is the best method.

Dragon magazine occasionally has a PrC that allows entry upon 3rd or 4th level.

The Gloura from the Underdark book is one of my fave classes for going this route. Especially for Nar Demonbinder or Sublime Chord builds.
