| Devant02-11-05, 07:22 PM | Building a Better Fighter The Fighter is one of the weakest classes and is only good for a 2 level dip at best.Foreward: This thread is something I have wanted to create for awhile. I always felt slightly intimidated about posting something this in depth. Well the time has come where it is literally a now or never situation. I leave for Army Basic Combat Training next week so this is my thank you for all those moments I did not have to sit at my computer bored. Due to the severe lack of good fighter threads present on this board I have decided to put forth my time and effort into improving the quality of Fighter related advice. I firmly belive that the Fighter is a very powerful class due to the number of options that it is presented with. Unfortuantly the sheer number of options available leads to the extreame difficulty in playing this class effectively at high level. The biggest part of this problem I see is the lack of solid advice and explanation as to why somethings(feats) are less optimal then others. Purpose of this thread: To Help people understand the shortcomings and advantages of playing a Fighter and to provide them with proper understanding of how to create a fighter build that will stay strong through the later levels. Basic information about an effective Fighter: There are three things that are basic nessesities for every Fighter: Contact: The ability to hit your enemy. Stratagy: The ability to utilize tactics. Sustaining: The ability to continue fighting. Contact: Face the fact, your Fighter has a good BAB progression. Beating an opponents AC will rarely be a difficult situation for you. Making contact with your weapon will be the most frustrating part. Things like concealment and enemys out of your reach will provide the most challenging ecounters for you. Speeding up that first contact and all following contact with the enemy in combat will increase the survivablity of your party. The more opponents you can make contact with at once helps as well. Usually this means using a reach weapon, having the ability to deal with concealment/miss chance, and opponents who are flying or otherwise out of reach. Work in Progress.... Will continue later. I just wanted to get something up. |
