Hi, this was originaly going to be a post in the optimize an army thread but I decided I would be hijacking his topic.

I have a 7 cleric / 5 Radiant Servant of Pelor. He had just advanced a level at the end of my last session, giving him another feat. I was thinking of taking leadership.

I read through the DMG, and since my character is effectively level 12 and has a lvl 17 CHA (+3 modifier) I would have a Leadership score of 15. I could have a level 10 cohort, 20 1st level followers, 2 2nd level followers, and 1 3rd level follower.

What I don't really understand is, how do I make use of these NPCs? Now and as my Leadership scrore progresses?I read in the Optimizing an Army thread that bards can attract other followers, how does this process work? Where is it laid out in the books? Also, how could they make me money? I wouldn't be exploiting them, I'd take the money and buy them a better keep, better armor, better weapons, etc.

I guess I have a couple of goals...

- To attract absolutely as many followers as I possibly can (through bards?)
- To build or buy an awesome keep
- To form a holy army, perhaps have paladins, archers, fighters etc
- To make a LOT of money to equip and feed everyone

Basically, I want to optimize the Leadership feat.

I have a couple of ideas for long term operation, but I don't really know how to put them into practice.

Clerics brewing and selling healing potions, pleasing Pelor.
Paladins and fighters battling evil.
Bards spreading the word of the church and getting us more followers.
People mining, crafting, farming, etc to earn money for the commune.

I would really appreciate any help you could give me in this area. Thanks in advance.

Heroes of Battle has a lot of leadership increases feats. Might want to check out Legendary Leader, too.

Attracting followers and cohorts is largely up to your DM.

Ah, thank you. I'll take a look at those.

Attracting followers and cohorts is largely up to your DM.

What does he base this decision on? What factors does he take into consideration?

Anyone? So far I'm almost settled on selling potions for a source of primary income.

I guess my main question, if my first request was too broad, is how do I use my followers to make the maximum amount of money possible? Crafting? Mining? Creating Potions? I really appreciate any advice you all can give me.

While not totally D&D, this (http://www.wizards.com/leaving.asp?url=http://www.wizards.com/leaving.asp?url=http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7804909&postcount=32&origin=&origin=) may at least inspire you.

Gasp! I was linked to.

I was just about to say that crafting is probably your best idea. I've heard longbows tossed around before, but I'm not actually sure what the best item is.

Might makes right allows you to add your stength modifier to your leadership score.

Combined with magic items/polymorph and object this can lead to substantial improvements in leadership score.

The other thing to do is to go through a SS ritual to become a Kobold and get psycically reformed to get the feat which grants the dragon type.

You can then pick up Epic Leadership/Legendary Commander.

As for what to do with them, consider if your DM will let you make unlimited use per day items which cast long lasting spells, and the like.
