Hi there.

I'm trying to start a new wizard character for LG.

Ground rules:

Stats - 28 point buy.

Races - PHB, plus, the various halfling types from MM, wood and grey elves from MM.

Allowed books - Core, splat books, and maybe some material from Minatures handbook. Nowt else.

Banned - contemplative, sacred exorcist, divine oracle, pale master. Creating long-term followers (hoards of undead, planar allies etc all permitted, but can't hang around)

Magic items - quite limited. I can't guarentee I'll find or be able to make any particular item. Its pretty much pot luck.

Level: starts at level 1, and will only ever get to level 15, no higher.

Likes - prestige classes, strange abilties, unusual combinations, magic item creation, metamagic combinations. Improved familiar. Playing character types generally considered to be poor choices. Anything complicated.

Dislikes - polymorph (actually I do like it, but have an existing character that does it a lot). one-trick pony characters

Notes: LG modules tend to be fairly short and have a random selection of party members.

My present idea

grey elf mage
str 6
int 20
dex 10
wis 14
con 12
chr 8

1: scribe scroll, create wonderous item
3: imp familiar
4: (that feat that gives you access to a priest domain
6: prestige class of some sort?

I really need help with prestige classes and feats.
I usually play a sorcerer, but don't really know how to develop a wizard.
