Hi, my group is starting a new game and I can't decided what build I want to play. I'm the party skill monkey but I'd also like to be able to get into combat and unload some damage. I checked out the 3.5 Rogue guide already and here's what I got.

Human Rogue3/Fighter1/Wiz1/Daggerspell Mage10/??????????Maybe AT, but it's not what I'm looking for. This looks like a great build, Able learner for skill monkeying, and lots of spells for damage out put. Stays strong from low to high levels. Problems with it are 1) I'm just coming back to DnD and I'd have to learn how spells work all over again. 2) Everything that isn't from the Core costs an expansion slot, I get 3 at level 1 and 1 every level there after so it cuts down on spells I know. 3. It just seem so powerful it might be unbalancing.

OR

Whisper Gnome Rogue16/Fighter2/(Ranger or Barb)

BAB of 16, great skills, I can either get skills and TWF from ranger or +10 move and Uncanny Dodge from Barb(being that I'm taking the rogue option from PH2) Problems 1) Seems to lose it's combat abilites at higher levels when everything is immune to crits(we're going 1-20), 2) lots of attacks, generally less damage. 3) Even with more skills, I think the other build would have more thieving ability.

What do you guys(and gals) think would be more useful to my PARTY?

You get Uncanny Dodge at rogue 4, so don't worry about that if you take the second build.

PHB2 give you the option of losing UD at level 4 and replacing it with the ability to nock 5 ac off an oppent for 1 round. Good for fighting undead and constructs.

You need five levels of wizard to get into daggerspell mage.

So rogue 1/wizard 5/ daggerspell mage 10/? 4 arcane trickster nets you 18 caster levels.

Or rogue 5/wizard 5/ daggerspell mage 10 gets you fewer caster levels, but more rogue skills.

How does something like this grab you? The thing I like least about it is the double evasion...

Rogue 8/Monk 2/Swashbuckler 3/Ranger 3/Dark Hunter 3/Horizon Walker 1

Arranging the levels in an order that works out well is fun. At any rate, ideally you will be a Carmendine Ascetic Rogue with Superior Unarmed Strike and a monk's belt. Minor adjustments to taste.

Practiced Caster won't cut it here as he needs third level spells.

How about a Beguiler? Lots of skill points, trapfinding, INT-based casting. It'll give your Wizard the freedom to prepare a different variety of spells.

No, he needs "Arcane Caster level 5th"... which Practiced Spellcaster provides just fine.
