| Tweedledope01-20-06, 08:53 AM | Okay, with the Races of Dragon now being out we have the best race for trapsmithing/monkeyism...the Kobold. The feat, extraordinary trapsmith, allows a kobold to pay 1/2 price and take 1/2 the time to create traps...outrageous. Then, if one looks at the Kobold Rogue sub levels you get three abilities that make you better at detecting/avoiding traps at the cost of what? A d4 hitdie? I'll take it...I'm not so sure about Evasive Skitter though...it just seems like Evasion + movement? Anyways, so, how could we make note of this and make a mean Kobold trapsmith? What is the "most" optimized trapsmithing/finding PrC? I can see great synergy here with the Dungeoun Delver. Any thoughts? -=TD=- |
| Tweedledope01-20-06, 08:39 PM | So...no one can think of a good build for a Trapmonkey with this new material? Okay, I give up. ;) -=TD=- |
| PhoenixInferno01-20-06, 08:41 PM | The book JUST came out. We want to read the damn thing first, if we got it at all. Relax. |
| Tweedledope01-20-06, 08:45 PM | The book JUST came out. We want to read the damn thing first, if we got it at all. Relax. Seriously, if you didn't have anything to add to the post why did you? You ALWAYS do that...I was just doing a little bump since it fell to the third page. And, don't pull the "it just came out" we have five or six pages devoted to the new Kobold stuff. YOU need to relax. -=TD=- |
| Lo77o01-20-06, 09:05 PM | If you to end up fighting, could you make a claymation recording and post it... Other then that, ya dungeon delver seem like a very nice PrC for this, however im away from the right books right now so i cant realy put a build together. On a side note since i havent had time to pick up the new book yet, does the kobold have any other sub levels beside rogue? Sorcerer i would guess, and barbarian im hoping :) |
| Bard of DorAr01-20-06, 09:16 PM | Ranger and Fighter are what go with the Rogue for the kobold. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060106a&page=3 The Ranger is basically a dungeon ranger with a few extra points against racial enemies. The fighter is a spear fighter with some boosts to negate the penalties that make a Kobold bad for combat. |
| Llochlyn01-20-06, 09:20 PM | dungeon delver is nice I'm thinking of that eberron class, the extreme explorer |

| Tytalus01-20-06, 11:30 PM | So...no one can think of a good build for a Trapmonkey with this new material? Okay, I give up. ;) And I thought you were too much of a regular to bump your own thread after less than an hour. That's not setting a good example for newbies to the forum... Dungeon Delver is certainly a good choice. The reduced trap creation time also makes the use-trap-to-cast-beneficial-spells-a-lot exploit even more appealing. A self-resetting Cure Light Wounds trap? Is there an equivalent of the Magical Artisan feat [PGtF] for non-magical crafts? Something to stack with Extraordinary Trapsmith? |
| Dregdulain01-21-06, 01:06 AM | Actually I think he was bumping it after 12 hours...because one of his posts says AM and one says PM. Anyway, errr...can someone tell me why a trap-based person would be any good? I'm kinda new to this whole optimization thing...so...the info would really help. |

Anyway, errr...can someone tell me why a trap-based person would be any good? I'm kinda new to this whole optimization thing...so...the info would really help. Because if you play in worlds with my DM you play the sit and wait game...great for setting some traps. Or, you're constantly dodging traps because we're a LOT underground. That's my reasons for trapmonkeys...I'm sure there are others. -=TD=- |
| X-Codes01-21-06, 06:37 PM | 1/2 time to create traps with the Craft skill is hardly outrageous... Half of an eternity is still an eternity. Craft (trapmaking) is only vialbe IMO if your DM augments the crafting rules (making it SP/day or allowing you to craft a trap and install it later, among other things). |
| Tytalus01-21-06, 09:18 PM | Actually I think he was bumping it after 12 hours...because one of his posts says AM and one says PM. Oh, my apologies. It seems that traps are still not quite worth it (as X-Codes said), except for the cheesy beneficial-spell-traps. The rules are also not too clear on whether some of the PC-constructed traps are portable (which would increase their utility). |
