This isn't any, "I'm an Outsider, hear me roar." Rather, this is a full out, Highlander-style Immortal (APPARENTLY NOT REALLY!! lol) character...and I need your help putting the finishing touches on it. This is my build so far:

Whisper Gnome Ninja 3/Cleric 1/Thief of Life 10/Invisible Blade 5/XXXX 1

Domains: Trickery & Time

Since the 10th level Thief of Life ability, Steal Immortality, only works when you kill something with sneak attack, you need to focus as much on sneak attack as possible.

Necessary Feats
Craven
Telling Blow
TWF Tree
Weapon Focus (Kukri) *Required for IB
Far Shot *Required for IB
Point Blank Shot *Required for IB

So, what do you all think? Anything you could add? What would work well for the XXXX 1? Additional feats? Help? All books, mags, etc. available. 50 point buy.

Eh, whatever works.

Yeah, whatever happened to announcing your presence with an ominous sussurus and shouting "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" while brandishing your claymore/ Katana in a threatening fashion?

Shout, "There can be only one-", make the enemy flat-footed or helpless, then use thief of life.

So...aside from this nonsense, any help for the build?
GaffeR

09-17-06, 12:27 PM
Well you may want Weapon Finesse in there. Other than that, I can't help much. Where/what is Thief of Life?
QuarianRex

09-17-06, 12:31 PM
Where is the Thief of Life from?
Tweedledope

09-17-06, 12:40 PM
Thief of Life is from Faiths of Eberron.

Requirements:
Heal 4 Ranks
Knowledge (Arcana) 4 Ranks
Knowledege (Religion) 2 Ranks
Sneak Attack +2d6

So, as you can see, it's an early entry, if only you can get those damned skills set up right.

Interesting. Can anyone give me a quick rundown of the Steal Immortality ability? Does it reset your age category? Effectively make you ageless? Or what?
Tweedledope

09-17-06, 01:03 PM
No, it's better than that. If you reduce someone to -10 HP with your sneak attack, you do not age for one whole year and you don't need to eat or sleep during that year. So, every 364 days, make sure and shank someone so you'll be immortal forever. Also, if you reduce someone to -1 HP with sneak attack, you gain temporary hit points equal to their HD for 1 hour.

50 point buy.

:mymy: Wow.

Ok, aside from that, I don't see much of the Highlander flavor in the build other than Immortality. No big sword, not a scottish human, sneaky over in-your-face...which is totally cool.

So, why Ninja 3? Whisper Gnomes make excellent Ninjas, but even better Rogues, IMO. Ninja 1/Rog 2/Clr 1 meets your ToL requirements and nets you evasion.

This may be redundant as I don't own FoE. Therefore, I don't know the specifics of ToL.

What would work well for the XXXX 1?

The +1 LA on Whisper Gnomes? (or was that erratad?)

Either way...just my 2 cp
Tweedledope

09-17-06, 01:13 PM
Never thought about Rogue 2/Ninja 1...and, no, the Whisper Gnomes have never had a LA. Oh, and I should add that the DM doesn't allow LA at all.

The 10th level of the Cloud Anchorite PrC grants immortality.

Telling Blow plus a weapon with a high critical range will probably be good enough. This'll allow you to make a more martially oriented, less sneak-focused character. Critical Strike, a first level Sor/Wiz and Assassin spell, can make this even easier, especially if you also have Improved Critical and Power Critical.

some of the shadow hand manuevers stances and the feat make it easier to sneak attack
Tweedledope

09-18-06, 08:27 AM
Yeah but, the Cloud Anchorite is really a pretty sucky class aside from that note. Can anyone think of any way to get 2d6 sneak attack and heal, knowledge (religion & arcana)?

09-18-06, 11:00 AM
Yea one level of "Binder" from the tome of magic you can bind andromalius and/or take the feat improved binder binding Malphas or vice=versa rather

You can also take from the shadow school "Assasins stance" from the tome of batte 2d6 sneak attack

also The "first level dimond mind strike" (cant remeber the name afb) renders an opponent flatfooted when it hits. Its a minimal invsment to get and you gain so much from it. I mean it is essentially a free action feint. This strike allows you to do the whole Brandish a greatsword/katana
"There can be only one" bit too...

It's not quite that simple, if you read the ability again. In order to gain those benefits, you have to kill someone with at least as many hit dice as you have. At those high levels, that becomes a bit of a challenge.

Something like Clr 1/Rog 1/Sneak Attack Ftr 1 should meet all the requirements by 3rd level.

There is another way of becoming immortal, though this is more drawn towards not being able to take ANY damage at all. Most importantly, you have no need to snuff anyone. Or, you can, and not age. Here goes:
To keep this at 20, we're assuming that a troll has regeneration at 5 HD instead of six (5 troll levels, from Savage Species). Otherwise, it's level 21.

Half Dragon-golem troll of Legend.

Half-Dragon golem = Immune to any and all magic.
Troll = All but fire and acid is nonlethal damage.
Monster of Legend (Immunity acid and fear/fire subtype) = immune to fire and acid.
You pick the Vow of Poverty and with five levels, you don't need to eat or drink.
Suffocation is, at the moment, the only thing aside from aging that can kill this guy. Bring him to level 27 by some class levels, and breathing ceases to be a problem.

A few criteria I've based this upon:
Nonlethal can't kill someone. It states so under the regeneration rules, but just to be sure.
A troll can regenerate it's head after a vorpal attack (puts him on -10 for 3d6 minutes, but after that it's Back In Business (If this doesn't fly, add three levels for half-fire elemental and exchange MoL SQ fire subtype with Regrow Limbs) )
Outsiders doesn't die from old age. MoL makes it an outsider, as does half-elemental if you add that.

That's a true Immortal in my book :) You might try combining the two builds to make him Im-Immortal :)

Yes, but not in one hit. For instance, if your party whittles him down to 1 HP and you tell everyone (with your Lifesense ability, you know how weak he actually is) that you want the last blow. You feint, SA, d00m.

I'd think Neraph Charge (Planar Handbook) would be a great asset to this character. Once per foe per combat you can charge someone, and they automatically lose their Dex bonus to AC. The feat does have some rather high prerequisites, but with your stat buy, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. It requires 5 ranks in Knowledge: the Planes, and a 15 Wisdom.

Neraph Throw would be similar, except with thrown weapons, rather than a charge, and it's req's are 5 ranks in Know: the planes, and a 15 Dex.

Since you are wielding kukris, I'd take one level of Barbarian as your empty level, along with the Snow Tiger Berzerker feat (Unapproachable East), which allows you to make a full attack on a charge, so long as you are wielding light weapons.

Snow Tiger Berserker and Neraph Charge together = lots of sneak attacks.

Or you could try to just play a Neraph (+0 LA outsider from the Planar Handbook that gets the abilities of the above feats as racial abilities).

doesn't work
if u become immune to all types of lethal damage, the regeneration becomes fast healing

Why not just play an elan? They can't die due to age, correct? Or maybe they have some sort of youth-restoring ritual...XPH contradicts itself.

09-18-06, 07:35 PM
Well you could go mroe up-front with a tripping unarmed attack first (kick) then use a greatsword to SA on the AoO when they get up. (I don't know the ability's specific text but from normal SA attack bonuses that seems like it might work. (From a flavor standpoint anyway).

Can't be a Neraph 'cause the ToL requires Humanoid or Monstrous Humanoid. And, the reason I don't just "go with Elan" is because I want to build the character up to his power. AND, I love the flavor of sucking someones life from them sans Soul Eater.

Can't be a Neraph 'cause the ToL requires Humanoid or Monstrous Humanoid. I figured something like this (or just, you know, plain old flavor  ) I threw in the racial comment as an afterthought more than anything. Check the feat out though; it is really quite powerful.

But he doesn't regenerate like a Highlander should. Life-stealing aside, where's the "Only dies if you chop of his head"? Where's the "Already died once"?

Don't have to be a neraph to get Neraph charge, you can take a feat which grants it to you and it lets you charge each opponent once in combat and they're denied their dex bonus versus that charge.

Clr 1/Rog 1/Ninja 1
Clr 1/Rog 1/Spellthief 1
Clr 1/Ninja 1/Spellthief 1
Shugenja 1/Rog 1/Ninja 1
Shugenja 1/Rog 1/Spellthief 1
Shugenja 1/Ninja 1/Spellthief 1

All of these meet the requirements by level 3. Unfortunately, they all have +0 BAB, but you can't ask for too much when taking a Prc at lvl 4.

As an aside, does ToL progress spellcasting at all?

Hmm...I think I might have decided on a build...

Whisper Gnome
Rogue 1 -
SA Fighter 1
Cleric 1

Now, what domains to chose? This is meant to be a sneaky murderous character...

I'm working on a Changeling rogue for a homebrew game, using Rogue sub levels from Races of Eberron and the Cloistered cleric from Unearthed Arcana. Luckily, since it's homebrew, I go the OK to use the Thief of Life while worshipping Olidammara (per the adaptation advice), which gives:

Rog1
Rog2
CloClr1 (Celerity, Knowledge, and Mind Domains)
Rog3
ToL1-10

This gives all the sub level abilities, an extra boost to some CHA skills from the Mind Domain, and +10 speed from Celerity.

What would be good for the last 6 levels? I'm thinking of Invisible Blade and one level of something else.

Keep your eye out for everything that gives you a bonus feat or a constant effect ability that's not tied to your cleric level, Celerity, Darkness, Hunger, Magic, Time and Undeath might all have good uses.

I like psionics (and the psion has all the knowledge skill I think) and I've been looking at the Tome of battle recently, and the swordsage has heal as class skill.... plus he can gain sneak attack with a shadow hand stance.... add to it that feat which adds dex to damage....
Tweedledope

09-21-06, 12:48 AM
Will the Craven feat work with a Thief of Life, notwithstanding campaign setting? I'm not sure, but I think that once the ToL gets immunity to fear, it invalidates the prereq for Craven: cannot be immune to fear.

Will this trigger the steal imortallity ability.

By RAW, I'd say yes.
