| Kendrick11-12-05, 07:12 PM | Here's what I have to work with: 120,000 gp Craft Homunculus class ability Improved Homunculus Feat Craft Construct feat 40% price reduction for metal constructs due to houserule 20% price reduction for other constructs due to houserule 4 "Bonus Points" per construct that can each give +1 Str, +1 Dex, or +5 ft. movement (all base) due to houserule +4 HP/HD and +2 base NA to each construct due to houserule All of these things stack with each other - for example, the NA increase and NA increase from Improved Homunculus would stack. The character I'm building for is an artificer, and needs protection. I'm looking for opinions on how the cash can best be spent to protect the character - Should I try to build 1 massive bodyguard, or should I spread it around and build 2-4 with different capabilities? Is it worth using homunculi, or should I stick with a Shield Guardian or standard golems, or should I use some of each and if so which and how much should I advance each? I also need to be able to pick up some slack in the scouting department. Should I just make a standard messenger homunculus, or should I make an advanced furtive filcher that can contribute in other ways? Thanks for any info/opinions. |

But seriously the ff's high stealth skills are key for a scout/invisible-eye-in-the-sky but you'll need to use Improved Familiar to give him two levels of flight so he can get fly 40' (perfect). For a vicious bodyguard, a cave troll effigy (9 HD) is scary...has huge str and gets all the pouncing/raking/etc of a lion. Since he's humanoid he can open doors for you and a hat of disguise gets him into towns without getting a mob after you and some DMs even let you put armor on him. Dragon Magazine #327 p72 has outstanding augmentations for your constructs including Rudimentary Intelligence (gives your constructs extra feats too) and Extra Arms. Get those two on your cave troll bodyguard and all you have to do is cast Invisibility and gather all the treasure at the end of the day. |
