| Hablo_the_Hand05-02-05, 12:05 AM | im looking into a build that has a high damage reduction. fighter type class, though im sure barbarian will come up more than twice, and human as the race. 3.5 core books and suplements, and all forgotten realms books are open. the feat "roll with it" caught my eye, so my gears are turning, but i want an effective character out of the deal. filling all my feat slots with roll with it seems too crappy to make a beni out of it. |
| necrosnoop11005-02-05, 01:16 AM | Have you considered the Mineral Warrior template? For just an LA of +1 you get DR 8/adamantine and some other goodies. |
| allenchan05-02-05, 01:26 AM | Quasi-Were template is good, too. 10/Silver |
| glutton05-02-05, 01:47 AM | Dwarven defender who takes roll with it 6 times (if you use some flaws) ends up a fairly effective fighter with a whopping 18/- DR. If you cruise the board backa ways somebody tried making it. Actually im checking the PHB now and off the top of my head I think you can go Ranger 3 Fighter 2 Deepwarden 2 Dwarven Defender 10, then top it off with something 3. You get endurance and track with Ranger, and use one of your fighter bonus feats for Dodge. First level take Toughness, and if you then take a flaw you could get Roll with it at level 1, getting you up to 20/- DR. Please note you'd need a natural 18 so Dwarf con bonus could knock it up to 20. You'd be a pretty hardy tank with the +5 ac from con from deepwarden as well as the perks of dwarven defender. the DR 6/- over 10 levels is the best DR I can find from the core books, some oddball one might have better. Im sure someone will know. |
| Xperiment05-03-05, 07:50 PM | Dwarven Fighter 20 with 18 base con. 1: Toughness 3: Roll with it 6: Roll with it 9: Roll with it 12: Roll with it 15: Roll with it 18: Roll with it Fighter 1: Roll with it Fighter 2: Roll with it Fighter 4: Roll with it Fighter 6: Roll with it Fighter 8: Roll with it Fighter 10: Roll with it Fighter 12: Roll with it Fighter 14: Roll with it Fighter 16: Roll with it Fighter 18: Roll with it Fighter 20: Roll with it That is DR 34/-... and a complete waste of feats lol. |
| Zemyla05-03-05, 07:59 PM | Roll With It isn't a fighter feat, sorry. |
| glutton05-03-05, 10:20 PM | hmmm.. above build i posted has TWF and one open fighter feat and thats it :D Optimize one feat ftw! |
| Skulan05-03-05, 10:33 PM | Back in 3.0, a friend and I decided to build a dwarf around the concept of taking damage. He ended up being (I believe) a Barbarian 1/Ranger 1/Druid 1/Cleric 1/Fighter 16. Every normal feat after Toughness was Roll With It, and just about every fighter feat was Dragon's Toughness, the Masters of the Wild feat that gave you 12 hit points. We named him Meat. Ah, the joy. For pure DR, Mineral Warrior or the Dwarven Defender and Roll With it is probably better, as people have said. -Skulan |
| Tytalus05-03-05, 10:40 PM | Roll With It isn't a fighter feat, sorry. True. While Xperiment's build doesn't work, the same approach is ok for UA's generic warrior. You can even squeeze a few more RWI's out if you use the other generic classes as well. E.g., Fighter1(toughness)/Warrior16/Expert2/Spellcaster1 for a total of DR 38/- Still a rather useless build, though. |
| RadicalTaoist05-03-05, 10:52 PM | Human Psywar5/Warmind6/Iron Mind 9 Iron Mind is from Races of Stone. Pick up the Biofeedback power on your War mind powers known. Use the Psywar bonus feats to grab Invest Armor, Overchannel, and Talented. You need Iron Will and Invest Armor to qualify for Iron Mind. That leaves you with 7 Roll With Its. Iron Mind stacks with all typeless DR if you're psionically focused in heavy armor. Overchannel Biofeedback for 15 power points. As soon as you regain focus, you've got: 2 from WM 3 from IM 8 from Biofeedback 14 from RWI Total: DR -/27 Boo. Yah. |
| glutton05-04-05, 12:59 AM | Remember 20 con and toughness is a pre-req for roll with it Rad, so you would not qualify as human until level 8+ correct? (18+1+1) |
| Max Overload05-04-05, 04:28 AM | Dwarf Ranger3/Barbarian11/Berserk4/DeepWarden2 1:Toughness, Roll with itx2 3:Roll with It 6:Roll with It 9:Roll with It 12:Roll with It 15:Roll with It 18:Roll with It Go for Max Con score (+6 item, +5 levels, +5 Inherent) +14 Str & Con with Hybrid Fury and Rage Active That's a net +16 to AC in Full-On Righteous Death Mode with a DR 20/- and 40ft Base Movement. 403hp plus whatever you happen to roll. |
| PhaedrusXY05-04-05, 05:36 AM | Dwarf Ranger3/Barbarian11/Berserk4/DeepWarden2 1:Toughness, Roll with itx2How are you taking three feats at first level as a dwarf? Flaws? |
| Max Overload05-04-05, 05:42 AM | I knew I forgot to list something. Yes, taking two flaws from UA (I favor Shakey and Murkey Eyed). I'd probably also use the trait Quick for more land speed since hp really isn't an issue. |
| allenchan05-04-05, 01:59 PM | Dwarf Ranger3/Barbarian11/Berserk4/DeepWarden2 1:Toughness, Roll with itx2 3:Roll with It 6:Roll with It 9:Roll with It 12:Roll with It 15:Roll with It 18:Roll with It Go for Max Con score (+6 item, +5 levels, +5 Inherent) +14 Str & Con with Hybrid Fury and Rage Active That's a net +16 to AC in Full-On Righteous Death Mode with a DR 20/- and 40ft Base Movement. 403hp plus whatever you happen to roll. Too bad it would take forever to get to that level because of all the xp penalty |
| Fwib05-04-05, 03:51 PM | Too bad it would take forever to get to that level because of all the xp penaltyI'm sure there are dwarf subraces with ranger or barbarian as favoured class. |
| ReBell4805-04-05, 04:28 PM | Where is mineral warrior? |
| Nazzareth05-04-05, 05:17 PM | Bear totem barbarians get toughness as a bonus 1st level feat, so a character that has 20 con at 1st level with flaws could have a DR of 6. Goliath barbarians substitution level 7 gives skin of stone it doubles DR your Barbarian DR but makes it adamantine, now if you could con your dm into giving you the mineral warrior template you could get DR 20 adamantine. Mineral warrior template is in the underdark book. |
| RadicalTaoist05-04-05, 09:45 PM | Remember 20 con and toughness is a pre-req for roll with it Rad, so you would not qualify as human until level 8+ correct? (18+1+1) Ah, good catch. That's three RWIs lost, leaving DR -/21. |
| SpartanMD05-04-05, 10:08 PM | Goliath barbarians substitution level 7 gives skin of stone it doubles DR your Barbarian DR but makes it adamantine... . Any way to boost the DR/adamatine? Roll with it wouldn't stack, but is there another feat or item that would? |
| Tytalus05-04-05, 10:24 PM | Any way to boost the DR/adamatine? Roll with it wouldn't stack, but is there another feat or item that would? Yes, there's a feat in SS (Thick Skinned?) that adds X/+2 to your current DR. So for adamantine, I'd add +2 to your DR rating. |
| SpartanMD05-05-05, 10:52 AM | Yes, there's a feat in SS (Thick Skinned?) that adds X/+2 to your current DR. So for adamantine, I'd add +2 to your DR rating. So at 10th level with the Goliath barbarian substitution feat I could have 6/adamantine with taking Thick skinned once. Can I take it multiple times? I thought that feat being v3.0 was the old DR system...ie you now need a +3 instead of a +1 weapon to hit an opponent.... |
| Hablo_the_Hand05-06-05, 08:38 PM | isnt there another feat that ups existing DR by 2? not just roll with it. |
| PhaedrusXY05-06-05, 08:41 PM | isnt there another feat that ups existing DR by 2? not just roll with it.Yeah. Thick Skinned. The one that was mentioned two posts ago. :P |
| Hablo_the_Hand05-07-05, 03:51 AM | sorry,.... skimmed the thing in a hurry. my bad |
