| PiedmonSama11-18-06, 06:14 PM | I've been mulling over what I want to do with the setting for my next D&D campaign, and the best idea I've had to make my setting stand apart is to completely spin around the "savage races marginalized to wastelands" concept. We traditionally think of human, dwarf and elf nations as the predominant military powers, holding central and fertile territory that the savage races covet but are too undisciplined/weak to conquer. For this campaign, I'd set it about 200 years or so after a huge defeat by the Allied Peoples (human, elf and dwarf kingdoms) from Orcs and Hobgoblins (the two savage races numerous and organised enough to dominate IMO.) They were forced to flee en masse from their homelands into the frozen north or the burning sands of the east, their last city-states eking out a miserable existence while the new Orc and Hobgoblin Empires lay claim to the forests, fields and mineral-rich mountains across hundreds of miles. The constant warfare between these two Empires is all that have kept the Allied Peoples from being wiped out entirely. So here's what I need help with: A truly powerful build for the rulers and champions of both Empires. I want the Hobgoblin Emperor and the Orc Warchief to be true iconics of their peoples (e.g, the Emperor should be primarily a fighter and the Orc a barbarian) and weigh in at EL 20. I'm open to suggestions for any Templates, PrCs or anything else that would make them truly formidable. I want these guys to be as tough as they can get. They don't need to be good at bluffing/diplomacy, just as long as their Intimidate scores are through the roof they'll get the point across. I also want a few champions for either side. The Emperor's principal advisor should be some kind of Cleric (EL 18 or 19, just a notch below him) and the Warchief should have some kind of more tribalistic figure (maybe a Druid, Totemist or Spirit Shaman?) They also need a General (EL 15, any combat-oriented build with some leadership abilities would do). Again, I'm open to any suggestions for builds, I just want these guys to credibly make a whole continent shake in its boots. If you want to help me actually make up the specific builds that's much appreciated, but feel free to just give me some general suggestions, e.g "you might want to look at such-and-such PrC/feat-chain," or even "this or that splat/suppliment has valuable stuff for Barbarians." Thanks in advance! |
