| Maliseth Tyranis03-11-05, 12:24 AM | As usual, the search function is down.... So I am posting a thread to see if any of you have any good builds using the Bloodhound Prestige class? I really like this class and am thinking of using it. I'm pretty sure I would want to start out a Ranger, but not sure if I would want to take a full 10 levels in the Prestige Class. Anyway, any help on this is appreciated. |
| Maliseth Tyranis03-11-05, 09:12 AM | Bumping in hopes of some post... :weep: |
| carnivore03-11-05, 09:16 AM | it appears to have some synergy with the Justicar class, but the best ability of justicar comes at 8th lvl(improved Hogtie)IIRC, so maybe something like: ranger 3/ fighter 2/ Justicar 8/ Bloodhound 7 i dont have any books to check this right now...... but i hope it helps :D |
| Kingside_Bishop03-11-05, 10:23 AM | Here's a state trained bounty hunter of mine, trained to be able to move through any environment and pursue any foe -- but this particular character specialized in assignments against a particular nation (which was a human state that rivaled his own, to which he owed his undying loyalty). He used a Great Crossbow as his weapon of choice, with a crazy range increment. Like, 395 ft, I think it was. Ranger 3 / Rogue 1 / Fighter 2 / Spymaster 2 / Deepwood Sniper 2 / Foe Hunter 4 / Bloodhound 6 |
| Maliseth Tyranis03-11-05, 10:35 AM | Thanks for the posts guys. When I first so this class, I really like it. I read the abilities and though cool, but then I saw the Crippling Strike ability and thought this is amazing. It works like the thieves ability but doesn't require a sneak attack and drains 2 pts of Strength. As long as the mark doesn't have immunity to ability drain this is a very good ability. I am looking to make him an Elf Ranger specializing in Ranged attacks using a bow. I know the Quintessential books are frowned upon, but in the Quintessential Elf book there is a killer feat that allows you to make attacks of Opportunity with your Bow that I thought was cool, so I will probably get that. I want this character to be sorta Bat-Man like in the aspect that he is usually ready for any situation. I would like him to be good at Range, Melee, and good against any other class. I hope to make him a very skill oriented character and have a bag of tricks to use in different situations. I even thought of making him Half-Elf so I could get the Human Paragon ability to get Use Magic Device as a class skill for all classes. Anyway, any more suggestion will be good. |
| Mommy was an Orc03-11-05, 11:05 AM | I'm not sure the Bloodhound class is all that great except in very limited situations. The big problem is that need to Mark - if you don't get 10 minutes to pick your target, then most of your abilities don't work. And your abilities don't work against the mark's friends and allies. And if you're unlucky enough to not apprehend your Mark, you basically take an experience point hit to make your abilities work again. |
| rilem03-11-05, 11:27 AM | I'll second Mommy's reservations. The biggest potential for the class seems to be for DMs (chasing the PCs with Bloodhound DMs) and for really specific campaigns where you can scout out your opponent beforehand. It might have particular value for a solo campaign, I suppose, because then your partymates aren't forced to twiddle their thumbs while you wait to attack the bad guy. |

Could you guys possible comment on my Ice Mage thread? Ice Mage (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=388517) I was also flirting with the idea of an Undead Rogue for a character like the one I play in WoW. I'm still unsure what to play...lol |
| Khazra Reborn03-11-05, 11:47 AM | If you want to be a bounty hunter but decide you dont want to be a bloodound look up the consecrated harrier in CD. I find it to be much better both mechanicaly & from an RP aspect. |
| Frodo Fett03-11-05, 02:17 PM | As usual, the search function is down.... So I am posting a thread to see if any of you have any good builds using the Bloodhound Prestige class?Snow Savant had a build, long, long ago that I remember noticing: Rgr6 / Ninja5 / WatchDetective3 / ShadowScout1 / Bloodhound4 / XXX1 BAB +17, +3d6 SA, "Intelligence" Chain Fighter - uses INT Mod to add to Initiative and Subdual Damage Bonus (a damage multiplier, like SA). Fighte with Chain in TWF/THF mode. 3 Fav. Enemies. Use that last level in either ShadowScout2 (for the Evasion), Templar1 (you get free Endurance from Ranger), or SoldierofLight (if you want Divine Might feat), or GuildThief1 (+1d6 SA)....from this thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=54719#post655862). It might be too old to use, but hey, you just asked for builds  Perhaps there's something there you can adapt (I also don't have books with me, otherwise I might be equipped to suggest something.) |
| Mommy was an Orc03-11-05, 02:24 PM | That's the 3.0 version of Bloodhound, not the 3.5 version... |
