| Zsasz_Diedne09-10-04, 10:28 AM | Inspired a bit by the charge builds floating around here, and having leafed through Eberron(and lurked on that board some), I began tooling around with the concept of a stealth charger: One minute the villain is standing big and bad, the next; WAM! Books: Eberron CS, Miniatures, PHB, DMG, SnF Classes: Fighter, Monk, Ninja of the Crescent Moon, Shadow Dancer(so far) Build: 1: Fighter: Quick Draw, Powerful Charge 2: Monk: Stunning Fist, Evasion 3: Monk: Deflect Arrows, Dodge 4: Monk: Still Mind, +10' move 5: Monk: Ki Strike(Magic), Slow Fall 20' 6: Monk: Mobility, Purity of Body, +1 AC 7: Monk: Improved Trip, Slow Fall 30' 8: Monk: Wholeness of Body 9: Monk: Slow Fall 40', +20' move 10: NCM: Monk AC Bonuses, Sneak Attack +1d6, Combat Reflexes 11: NCM: Improved Evasion, Kuji Kiri 12: NCM: Poison Use, SA +2d6 13: NCM: AC +1, Fast Climb, Silencing Attack, Greater Powerful Charge 14: NCM: Fast Sneak, SA +3d6 15: Shadow Dancer: Hide in Plain Sight, Improved Natural Attack Items/Magic: Greater Shadow and Silent Moves on the Warforged plating for +15 to each of those skills. A Battlefist of Subtelty and Deadly Precision(+5 to hit and +2d6+5 damage on a sneak attack, considered one size category larger for unarmed monk damage). A striding boost of some kind(for +10 movement), and the various and sundry cloaks and rings for str/dex/wis boosts, and the nastiest poisons money can buy. So we now have a character who can charge at a speed of 60(30 base, 20 monk, 10 striding), while hiding and moving silently with no penalty(at a +32 before rolling assuming he maxed ranks), doing 3d8+7d6+5 damage before strength or any other modifiers. Not the most awesome damage ever, but, I think, pretty cool for a charge attack, and with creative use of HIPS, can be done over and over again, and is fantastic against casters( who are dealing with concentration checks, possible death and not being able to speak for one round). Now coat yourself with a nice poison (a viable tactic from go, as Warforged are immune to poison) to get cruel:) As for the last 5 levels I am thinking max NCM, netting another 5d6 SA, always taking 10 on Hide and MS, Gaseous Form, Ethereal Jaunt and Blindsight. Ideas and comments welcome, thanks for your time. |
| RadicalTaoist09-10-04, 10:39 AM | Best combination of flavoring and optimization I've ever seen. HOWEVER: My frenzied berserker thread offers a similar build that can do more damage in a charge at level 16 thanks to Lion's charge. You should work that spell/power/ability into this build somehow (it allows you to full attack as a charge, 2nd level druid spell, 2nd level psychic warrior spell). Check the Mage Slayer thread on this page too, best anticaster ever. |
| Zsasz_Diedne09-10-04, 02:26 PM | Thanks :) Lion's Charge is exactly that little something I was looking for, I knew there was a spell/item/something or other that allowed the 'pounce'' ability a la the Lion<grin> in the MM. I have seen those two builds, and they are indeed awesome. I wanted to come from the "sneaky" side of things, and NCM was absolutely perfect thanks to Fast Sneak. Nonetheless I will probably work that power in with an item:D |
| catharz09-10-04, 05:19 PM | There is a feat in the Planar handbook that lets make an opponent flat-footed when you charge (automatically). I think it is called something like Nerra rush. Anyway, that would let you not worry about hiding before you charge, much more dramatic IMO. Rather then *dissapear* *Wham*, you get the rabbit in the headlights effect. |

Neraph Charge, yes a good feat except it can only be used once on a single opponent, which is fine if I could drop anything I hit in one shot, but I can't. What I envision is quite dramatic, think almost Anime, where a foe is moving so fast as to be invisible, striking from the shadows like lightning only to vanish again. |
| Endarire09-17-04, 05:27 PM | Why go Fighter first when you get more skill points starting as a Monk? Also, should you get Evasion at Monk2? -EE |
| Qaetar09-17-04, 10:20 PM | Try and fit in Cloak Dance (Feat) if you're going to take PsyWar for Lion's Charge. (Qaetar) |
| RadicalTaoist09-17-04, 10:32 PM | Cloak Dance is great. Not a psionic feat tho. So you can take it b4 PsiW. |
| Qaetar09-17-04, 11:29 PM | Cloak Dance is most useful with Hustle. Otherwise, you can't charge and Cloak Dance in the same round. (Qaetar) |
| Zsasz_Diedne09-18-04, 12:12 AM | @Endirire True, but backstory must rule over optimization in my book, and his delineates his level progression. As for the Evasion, that's the God of Misplaced Text working his mojo, should be at the the 3rd level slot;) @Qaetar I would probably go for an item that granted the ability rather than switch to PsiW @Taoist Cloak Dance is interesting, I'll give it some thought. Thanks all for the feedback. |
| SolitudeSeraph09-18-04, 12:27 AM | There are sandals that let you do x2 damage on a charge..from Savage Species...Sandals of the Tiger Leap IIRC..(I think they were 4,000) Also, get an Amulet of Natural Weapons (+1, Valorous) - Total Cost (600+enchantment) for another x2..(yes charges stack) so you can be doing x4 damage on a charge.. For even more damage get a fanged ring (dragon 308, 10k) If you can fit 2 more feats in somehow..try looking at power attack so you can take flying kick (from CW..adds another 1d12) |

And multipliers don't stack like that (when you double a double, it goes to triple). |
| Auxryn06-28-05, 08:09 PM | Another stacking thingy no one caught- the monk's bonus to speed is an enhancement bonus as of 3.5. You can't increase it further with magic. At least not easily. |
| CrimsonDeath10-05-05, 07:13 PM | If you *do* wind up going PsyWar, the Speed of thought feat gives you 10' insight bonus to speed. |
| Nazzareth10-05-05, 08:59 PM | The Telflamar shadow lord PRC is what you might be looking for to complete the last five levels. Shadow pounce. |
