I am making a Bard 5/Cleric 1 character:

I have 5 skill points to spend on my Cleric level:

I would like to spend more than 1 point on the heal skill, because it is crossclassed as a Bard. (My character is Diplomatic/assistant medic for a large crew on a medial sailing planar ship, so I want at least +5 heal (already have +3 Wis).

Consider that the Character has a maximum of 4 cross class ranks already when the character takes the cleric level.

Can I buy 2 points of Heal costing only 2 points?
What about buying 5 points of Heal costing only 5 points?

What is the rule for buying class skills when the previous ranks were cross classed?
[This is a rather important point for some character designs.]

Thanks for the answers!

Any skill that is a Class Skill for any of your classes is a Class Skill forever, when determining maximum ranks. When you are buying skill ranks, you buy them as normal for whatever class you have just levelled in.

So, for example - your character has the Heal skill through the Cleric class, but not the Bard class. Your Maximum Rank at level 6 is 9 Ranks. You buy the Heal skill at 1 point per skill rank.

Your character has Use Magic Device through Bard, but not through Cleric. You may still have up to 9 Ranks. Because you just gained a Cleric level, it costs you 2 points per rank to buy the skill.

Your character doesn't have Disable Device as a class skill through either of his classes. Your maximum in Disable Device is 4.5 Ranks. It costs you 2 points per rank to buy this skill.

Does this answer your question?

And a final point. This discussion doesn't really belong on this board. The Skills and Feats board would be more appropriate. Link is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=19) .
