bwuaha? little help with this character [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-20-04, 02:20 PM I am looking at building a character like noone other.... a half elf ;) , I am looking to do 5 lvls rogue, 5lvls sor, 2 lvls ftr, 3lvls spellsword, 5 lvls eldritch knight

so I end up with decent hit points, I can cast in a mithral breastplate, I get four bonus feats , a familiar ,some good skills (things like spot, listen, and the like) , and I can cast spells as an 11th lvl sorcerer

WHAT feats should I take besides the few obvious ones? (i.e. combat casting and arcane strike)???

04-20-04, 02:42 PM Well, I'm not sure I see the logic of your build (what's that fifth level of Sorcerer doing?), but the best thing to do in these situations in to read the FAQs at the top first. The Arcane Gish Thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=150451) is the definitive source for Fighter/Mage builds, so I suggest you look there.

:b: I just wanted a well rounded character with spells, swords, and skills , this was the most annoying build I could come up with from a roleplaying point of view... the DM makes you track down people to teach you the new classes or help you unlock abilities

04-20-04, 03:51 PM Keep in mind that too avoid xp penalties you'll have to have Fighter as your favored class.

04-20-04, 03:56 PM You can't just choose a favored class, with Humans its the highest level class you have thats Favored.

Also, a better build for you would be Fighter2/Sorcerer4/Spellsword4/and whatever here, dependingon your build, either Eldritch Knight (No flavor, lame class overall) or Raumathari Battlemage. Both are +1 Spellcasting, EK is d6, RM is d4, but EK gives you nothing but Fighter base attack and a d6, where you get lots of Metamagic feats and free action spellcasting along with more Spell Channeling for your weapon.

Your choice.

04-20-04, 04:05 PM well I picked ek becuase it has more hit points :o) having 11 total feats is good with me ... a few metamagic and a few fighter :o)

04-20-04, 08:24 PM I think you should definately look a Snow savant's Triple- and Quadruple-threat builds.

The Rokugan Ninja class seems like it would fit right in, although I don't belive in the class (it is non-WotC, and I don't belive in full BAB+SAD).

Of course, the sneak attack Rogue variant from Unearthed arcana would work almost as well.

And lastly, 5 levels of Sorceror is a *dumb* idea. Go 4 or go 6. NOT 5.

04-21-04, 08:35 PM now I'm actually interested to know why everyone has said take either 4 lvls or 6 lvls of sor but not 5! My obvious question is why such an objection? what have I overlooked in my quest for power

04-21-04, 09:04 PM A 5th level gains nothing over a 4th level of Sorceror that a PrC couldn't give. A 4th level sorceror just gets 2nd level spells and a 6th level sorceror just gets 3rd level spells (not to mention +1 to all saves). A 5th level sorceror gets nothing useful.

04-21-04, 09:18 PM Replace the lost level of Sorcerer with EK or SS, and to avoid an XP penalty since you cannot choose your favored class, go with this build.

Rogue5/ Sorcerer4/ Fighter2/ Spellsword3/ Eldritch Knight6

That gives you 6th level spells, cast as a 12th level Sorcerer, with a base attack of +16.

04-21-04, 10:23 PM 11th level actually, Satori - you miscounted the number of caster levels the EK gives - the first lvl doesn't give a caster lvl. So that's 4 sorc + 2 SS + 5 EK. If you really want to have skills, you could sub in some Ranger levels - more HP, more BAB, favored enemy bonues, perhaps something like 3 Rogue/2 Ranger/ Sorc 4 / Fighter 2 / Spellsword 3 / Eldritch Knight 6 (wow, that's a lot of classes). I think you gain +2 BAB this way, but someone check my calculations, I'm too tied up with homework to care.

04-23-04, 04:13 PM I considered ranger but it just doesn't seem to fit into my character idea (different thing all together) but all of the spells I would choose from sor would be self enhancing nothing for attacks except maybe magic missle
