Cabinet trickster + Mindspy question [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-05-05, 12:49 AM So I'm a level 5 Cabinet Trickster who uses this ability to qualify for Mindspy, and I take level 5 of THAT.

Now, Mindspy 5 lets me read 4 minds at once. Cabinet Trickster lets me mindtrick anyone whose mind I'm reading as a swift action. Do both of them together mean that i can stun 4 people at once?

It appears to be so:

...Alternatively, if you have already used your detect thoughts ability against a specific creature and that creature has failed it's Will save (so that you are currently reading it's thoughts), you can use a thought trick as a swift action or an immediate action.

...A mindspy of third level or higher can simultaneously detect the surface thoughts of any two creatures who fail their Will saves... At 5th level, a mindspy can simultaneously detect the surface thoughts of four creatures.

Note the use of 'simultaneously'. Stunning four targets at the same time as opposed to stunning four targets consecutively, which you can't do due to the actions/round rules.

07-05-05, 04:29 AM In your excerpted text from RoE, it mentions "a specific creature". That's what crosses me up. Each of the four targets are specific creatures, and stunning all 4 seems to require 4 swift actions.

And come on, WS, we've been over this before, I just want to hear the CO board's opinion on it. :p

07-05-05, 01:14 PM I would interpret it as a No. You can't stun 4 people with one swift action. That would be a little much.

The Thought Trick allows you to affect "a specific creature." That's one creature. You can still Detect Thoughts on 4 targets, but you can only affect one per swift action. Since you only get 1 swift or immediate action per turn you would have to use a standard action if you wanted to stun another of the targets of your Detect Thoughts.
