Rogue Newb 06-08-05, 09:33 PM	Hey, I'm going to be playing in a campaign with a DM I don't particularly like and I want to have a character that DM's hate. I was looking particularly for something with lots of DR/-. I'm pretty bad at the optimization but some books are on the table. Books Available: All of Complete Sword and Fist Core (Obviously) XPH BoED BoVD Heroes of Battle. I am even allowed leadership. I have 15 levels to do it in. lokkesmadr 06-08-05, 09:42 PM	The simplest build for DR is the traditional Dwarven Defender build. With the books available that you've listed this is, almost without a doubt, the best build you can manage for reliable DR. If you had Savage Species available there would be far more options open to you for high DR.

lokkesmadr 06-08-05, 10:32 PM	The highest mundane version at level 15 would be something simple like: Dwarf Fighter 5/Dwarven Defender 10 With Greater Resiliency from CW you net DR 7/- A long term version would aim for Barbarian 10/Dwarven Defender 10 (which requires a shift from requiring non-lawful to requiring lawful within one level) netting DR 9/- at level 20. The easiest alternative method would be a psychic warrior. At level 15 you can manifest Biofeedback using Overchannel for DR 7/- but will deal yourself 1d8 damage in the process. By 20th level you'd be getting DR 9/- and 3d8 damage. The potential advantage to this method is the low feat investment and high versatility afforded by being a psychic warrior. There are probably other methods you could use, but they are the two simplest I can think of...

20goingon1232 06-08-05, 11:03 PM	Rogue - Have you tried Elan with Psychic Warrior? High AC due to full armour profficiency, Resilience as racial ability, and Powers that increases AC/DR as well as healing. A Fighter 4/PsyWar 11 and take all the body boosting Powers and Astral Construct feats should net you a fair amount of DR and AC. Also, Psi Body will give you a lot more hps to your already considerable score.

I think I will go mess around with a build and see what I can come up with based on this. ;) Edit: I wouldn't bother with fighter levels. You're going to be burning through a ton of power points with a character like this. In fact, you'd probably be better off playing a ranger/psion(or wilder)/slayer just so you'd have more power points. Edit2: Here is a build. Elan Ranger1/Psion8/Slayer10/IaijutsuMaster1 BAB +16; Manifester Level 17; Hit Dice 11d8+8d4+1d10; Base Saves: F7, R9, W13; Int to AC; Minimal Power Points (w/Int20): 292 Manifest an Overchanneled Biofeedback for DR 8/-. Burn Power Points via your Resiliance ability to further reduce damage (2 points of damage per 1 power point spent, no limit).

Perfecto 06-09-05, 03:22 AM	But it does give you your Con Bonus to AC (rather than Dex), and you can make an incredibly tough character like that. High AC since there is no Max Con to AC from armour, Huge hit points from said high Con, and DR from Dwarven Defender... Wouldn't want to have to kill that character...
